How to Have Your Holiday Tree Collected

The Streets Division provides two rounds of curbside collection for Christmas trees. The first round began on January 2, 2020 with the second and final round beginning on January 21. Wreaths, evergreen rope, garlands, and boughs will not be collected alongside Christmas trees. Read more.

Co-op Conversion Proposed for N. Franklin Street Home

Madison Community Cooperative has submitted a Conditional Use application to the city for the conversation of a 3-flat house at 19 N. Hancock Street into a housing cooperative. A Conditional Use Permit is required partially because they plan to increase the number of bedrooms from the current 9 to 11. They also propose building renovations, including a ramp in the front for accessibility purposes, 2 small dormers added to the side roofs, 2 parking stalls in the rear, and bike parking.

Property owners and residents living within 200' of the site will receive postcard notification of the public hearing that is scheduled to occur at the Jan. 27 Plan Commission meeting when the Conditional Use Application will be considered. Meeting details will be listed in my alder updates prior to that week, but if you have input on the proposed conversion, feel free to contact me and/or provide public or written testimony at the Plan Commission meeting.

Redevelopment Proposed for 400 Block of E. Washington

LZ Ventures is proposing to demolish the Klinke Cleaners building, a house, an apartment building, and a single-story commercial building, all between 402 and 414 E. Washington, as well as three houses at 9 N. Hancock, 8 N. Franklin, and 12 Franklin. The developer proposes a 10-story market rate apartment building on E. Washington dropping to 8 stories in the rear with several levels of parking underneath. A commercial space is planned on E. Washington on the first floor.
 
District 6 Alder Marsha Rummel and I are hosting a Jan. 30 neighborhood meeting to discuss the proposal. Please email me if you have input and/or are willing to join a neighborhood steering committee that will form after the neighborhood meeting.

2020-2021 Refuse, Recycling, and Large Item Schedule Calendars Available

The 2020-2021 collection schedule calendars are available at this website. The collection schedule calendar shows what day refuse, recycling, and large items will be collected by Streets Division crews. 

To get the calendar enter your address as directed. This will open a new tab in your web browser where you will see the 2020 and 2021 collection calendars. Residents who prefer paper copies of the calendar mailed to them can contact the Streets Division office to receive their collection schedule calendar. If you live west of S. Park St., you should call 608-266-4681. If you live east of S. Park St., you should call 608-246-4532. Additional information can be found on the Streets Division's website.

At this time, the Wisconsin Elections Commission has not issued any directives regarding voters listed on the 2019 ERIC movers mailing list and have not updated their registration status. Authorizing the provision of $50,000 to continue Kiva Madison by supporting the staffing and administrative costs for the Kiva Madison Lead Position, which is based at the Wisconsin Women's Businesses Initiative Corporation (WWBIC). Kiva Madison provides zero interest loans that help to make entrepreneurship more inclusive to women, people of color, immigrants, veterans, and lower income entrepreneurs and business owners.

A Resolution to authorize the noncompetitive purchase of goods from Election Systems & Software, LLC ("ESS") as a sole source provider of Voting Equipment for the City of Madison Clerk.

Authorizing the noncompetitive purchase of more than $25,000 in goods from SiteOne Landscape Supply Holding LLC as a sole source provider of chemicals and supplies to be used for EAB mitigation in 2020.

I agree with TPPB's recommendation. There is effectively no chance that an RTA will be formed until the state legislature's composition changes drastically. Even if an RTA was more possible, I don't believe that we can forecast the city's financial position accurately enough to justify hamstringing our ability to manage our revenue sources in the future.
