Since the Southeast Area planning processes began in 2024, City staff have received community feedback through survey responses, interactive mapping comments, and during in-person and virtual meetings. Now residents have another opportunity to connect at the next set of virtual and in-person meetings to see what the City has heard so far during the planning process.

These meetings will provide an overview of issues and opportunities in the planning area and offer a chance to review and comment on draft plan actions. Presentations at the virtual meetings will be followed by discussion and feedback. In-person meetings will have a short presentation followed by an open house.

Upcoming Public Meetings

People needing interpretation should contact staff at southeastareaplan@cityofmadison.com at least 3 days before the meeting.

About the City’s Area Plans

The City established a Planning Framework to simplify the City’s sub-area planning and make it more equitable. Over the next decade, 12 Area Plans will be developed to cover the city and future growth areas. These plans will address a consistent set of topics and include higher level recommendations.

With 70 sub-area plans adopted over the last four decades, each Framework Area Plan process provides an opportunity to consider older plans for retirement to reduce the number of outdated and overlapping plans. After 12 Area Plans are established, they will be updated each decade to reflect an ever-changing city and keep Plan recommendations in sync with other City initiatives.
