About Alder Bidar
Shiva was first elected as District 5 alder in April 2009. Before being elected as Alder, Shiva had been extremely involved in Madison's civic life by serving as a City Public Health Commissioner, a member of the Dane County Equal Opportunities Commission, the Ad-Hoc Committee on the Department of Civil Rights, and the Police and Fire Commission. Shiva is the Co-chair of the Latino Health Council of Dane County and an executive committee member of the Latino Support Network.
Shiva has over seventeen years of experience as a community relations and interpreter services professional. She has been instrumental in the development of language access policies and practices in Dane County, Wisconsin.
On a national level, she has worked extensively on issues of equal access to health care for limited English proficient individuals. She is fluent in four languages: English, Spanish, French, and Farsi. Her experiences have included the development and management of relationships with key community groups and organizations, planning outreach and community partnerships, all facets of personnel management, complex schedule management, budget creation and management, as well as internal and external diversity training.
