As a reminder, student move out is occurring now. Until August 18, items placed at the curb will be picked up automatically without a large item work order. Please note that you will still need to pay a fee for items like microwaves and air conditioners. The standard large item pickup process will resume after August 18.

  • August 9, 4-8pm: Jazz at Five – top of State Street.
  • August 9, 4:30-6pm: LIVE @ Lake Vista: Ben Mulwana – Monona Terrace rooftop. Ben Mulwana is a Ugandan-born and raised artist. With thought-provoking lyrics and a diverse range of musical inspiration, Ben’s music has been described as afro-soul rock that takes on a storytelling quality that is both unique and familiar.
  • August 9, 5-8pm: Parks Alive - Connect with your neighbors and engage with your community at a Parks Alive event near you!
  • August 9, 6-7:30pm: Conservation Park Tour | Prairie Ridge. Conservation Park Tours are educational staff-guided walks held at various conservation parks and typically last about 90 minutes.
  • August 9, 6-8pm: Urban League of Greater Madison: Financial Empowerment Workshop Series #3.  Do you have financial goals you are working to attain? Maybe you'd like to purchase a home, start your own business, or plan for retirement? The Urban League's free Financial Empowerment series of workshops can help you build the budget to achieve those goals, understand and build your credit score, learn about other community resources that can help support your goals, and much more!

  • August 10, 3:30-6pm: FREE Expungement Clinic, Southwest Madison Employment Center, 1233 McKenna Blvd.
  • August 10, 4-9pm: Madison Night Market - Madison Night Market is a celebration of Madison's unique and inspiring creative culture.
  • August 10, 5-8pm: Parks Alive - Connect with your neighbors and engage with your community at a Parks Alive event near you!
  • August 10, 7pm: Capitol City Band Concerts in the Park. Old fashioned band concerts in Rennebohm park. Bring a friend. Bring a chair for listening comfort.
  • August 11, 5:30-9:30pm: Dane Dances: Orquesta Salsoul Del Mad/Luisito Rosario. Join this free, family-friendly event held on the beautiful Monona Terrace rooftop. The much-anticipated summer music series every Friday in August is a great way to get down and dance with your friends, family, or coworkers! Dane Dances promotes inclusivity with a fun night of music and dancing for all ages. No ticket needed.
  • August 11-12: The Sessions at McPike Park. The Sessions at McPike Park is in its 10th year!
  • August 11, 8-11pm: Mad Lit: Where Arts and Culture Shine – top of State Street. Mad Lit is a free, outdoor concert series featuring live music and highlighting local musicians, artists, and businesses owners of color.
  • August 12, 7am: Madison Mini-Marathon – Memorial Union. Watch for road closures!
  • August 12, 9-11am: Acewood Conservation Volunteer Workday. Madison Parks is seeking volunteers to assist in removing invasive burdock in Acewood Conservation Park. Gloves and shovels will be provided, or bring your own. Bring water and wear closed-toe shoes. No restrooms onsite.
  • August 12, 11am-7pm: JuJu’s Block Party – Penn Park.
  • August 12, 4-10pm: Summer Nights at Westmoreland Park. Summer Nights at Westmorland Park features an exciting family friendly line-up of entertainers and musical performers.
  • August 13, 12-4pm: Community Health Initiative Block Party. Join us as we build bridges, empower minds and unlock the limitless possibilities that lie within the resource-rich community we've created.
  • August 13, 1:30-3pm: Bird & Nature Adventures | Turville Point. Join Myco Rising leaders Kacy Zander and Aaron Cutler for a guided tour to see if you can spot some of the hundreds of different species of mushrooms and fungi that grow along the trails.

  • City of Madison seeks nominations for the next Poet Laureate: In 1977 Madison proudly became one of the first cities in our nation to have a poet laureate!
  • To better understand the quality of mammograms in Wisconsin, the Mammographic Quality Initiative (MQI) is seeking people 40+ who have had breast cancer screening to understand their experiences via this survey.
  • gBETA Urban League is accepting applications through August 11. gBETA Urban League is a no-cost, seven-week business accelerator that works with Black entrepreneurs and other entrepreneurs of color from high tech startups to main street small businesses.
  • Love food? Step up to be a food cart reviewer! Application deadline: August 18. To participate as a reviewer, you must be available for an online mandatory training on August 29, 6-7pm. The 2023 Fall Food Cart Review will take place September 11 - October 7. You must be available to visit the carts in person during these dates. Reviewers are required to review at minimum of 80% of participating food carts.
