District Niners,

Let the holiday celebrations begin.  But first, there is a checklist of things to do in preparation for Wisconsin's long winter that requires planning for in home safety as well as outdoor safety.  Have you checked your smoke detectors? your carbon monoxide detectors? There are dangers that lurk from exposure to carbon monoxide, improper use of space heaters, fires from faulty lighting on artificial and live/natural Christmas trees when allowed to dry out.

It's dark at 4:30 PM and those prepared to engage in crimes of opportunity await.  Become a little more hypervigilant and observant when out and about.

When the snow begins to fly and accumulate, check in on those who are house bound, encourage youth to shovel snow for those who are unable to do so.  The benefits of giving are many.  It's a feeling when you feel you are going to have a feeling that you never felt before.

For that all important meal:  the turkey, the stuffing, the mashed potatoes, the gravy, the green beans, the pies, (I'm feeling it), let your conscious be your guide when eating and do have a happy and a blessed Thanksgiving.

Common Council Meeting Alert: Next week's Common Council meeting will be conducted exclusively online, allowing everyone to participate from the comfort of their own space. • Common Council: The Common Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 25, at 6:30 p.m. in VIRTUAL FORMAT. Agenda items include prohibiting the sale of cats or dogs in retail pet stores.

Public Information Meetings (PIMs)

• Public Cannonball Path - Phase 6, Monday, November 24: The public is invited to attend a Virtual Public Information Meeting scheduled for Monday, November 24th at 6pm to learn more about the proposed design and anticipated timelines, as well as an opportunity to share feedback and ask questions of the project team. Registration prior is required.

• City of Madison Holding Workshop on Economic Development Plan Draft Strategy Recommendations: The City of Madison, in partnership with EQT By Design and 4th Economy, is holding a public workshop to engage community members in shaping the city's economic development plan.
• John Nolen Drive Reconstruction Project Enters Stage 2 on November 24: Beginning Monday morning, November 24, the John Nolen Drive Reconstruction Project will transition into Stage 2. During this phase, all traffic will shift to the existing northbound lanes.
• Final Weekend for Streets Division Drop-off Sites in 2025 is 11/29 & 11/30: The final weekend for the Streets Division drop-off sites in 2025 is Saturday, November 29 and Sunday, November 30. Before you load up your car or truck with stuff, check the Streets Division drop-off site webpage for hours and locations.
• Welcome to MPD: Two officers begin Accelerated Academy: Madison, Wis. – Another Accelerated Academy is underway at the Madison Police Department. Two officers were sworn-in early Wednesday morning by the Police and Fire Commission.
• Trash & Recycling Collection Changing for Thanksgiving Holidays; Streets Division Closed November 27 & 28: There will be no Streets Division collections will be performed on Thursday, November 27, 2025, and Friday, November 28, 2025.The closures are in observance of Thanksgiving (11/27) and Ho-Chunk Day (11/28).
• Thanksgiving & Ho-Chunk Day Service: Metro will operate a Sunday schedule on Thursday, November 27, and a Saturday schedule on Friday, November 28. [

Sustained periods of being indoors, gathering of family and friends from near and distant places, presents opportunities for developing upper respiratory problems.  If you have not gotten your flu, Covid, RSV and pneumococcal vaccines, do consider doing so.  Remember, an ounce of prevention is still worth a pound of cure.
