Parks Alive Onsite Support Information

Parks Alive onsite support team members should wear the provided green vest over their clothing. This will help us to identify each other and for the community to be able to identify us onsite. Upon arrival, please seek out the Team Lead to receive your vest and further instructions. 

Onsite support team member roles and tasks are described on this page. You may be asked to perform one of these roles for the duration of the event or you may be asked to switch roles, as needed. Please indicate any specific preferences in the notes section when you sign up or when you arrive onsite. 

All Team Members Must:

  • Assist the Parks Alive Coordinator, Intern and Daily Lead.
  • Always greet attendees in an open and friendly manner.

 

Roles & Responsibilities for Onsite Support

Greeting/ General Support /& Bi-lingual Support

  • Use clicker to count participants
  • Inform attendees about activities and free amenities
  • Direct attendees to Parks Alive tent and activities
  • Be available for questions and verbal engagement
  • Say goodbye to participants leaving the event
  • In some cases, accompany attendees to amenities
  • Assist with help translation (if you can provide language support)

Food Support: Ice Cream, Popcorn, Pizza

  • Inform attendees that food, activities and amenities are completely free
  • No tips are to be given or accepted
  • Maintain clean food service area
  • Wash hands before starting and wear provided gloves as needed
  • Use hand sanitizer as needed
  • Mention alternative food options (people may self-select not to indulge due to assumptions about what is available. Please highlight alternative options such as gluten free crusts, vegetarian, vegan, alternative milk, dairy free)
  • Remind participants to use appropriate garbage receptacles when finished

Setup - Cleanup

  • Survey event area
  • Assist organizations and Parks Alive staff with unloading/loading vehicles
  • Assist in setting up/ breaking down tents, games, tables, etc.
  • Place/Remove signs around park for food and amenities
  • Use grabbers, gloves and garbage bags to collect trash
  • Sweep up any fallen food or debris
  • Make sure materials with event logo are properly disposed of if discarded improperly
  • Use gloves and other cleaning materials provided

Flyer Distribution

  • Distribute Parks Alive promotional flyer around the neighborhood
  • Direct people out and about to the event
  • Tell them about:
    • free amenities
    • free activities
    • free food
    • event schedule day of and other dates
    • activities for kids and adults
  • Do not enter any private residences

Data Collection

  • Manage survey distribution/ collection
  • Engage with attendees about their experience
  • Capture data from kids and individuals unable to read/understand the survey by themselves (ask them the questions and record it on a form)
  • Ask people to self-identify don’t make assumptions
  • Secure the surveys and return them to Parks Alive Intern at the end of the event

Face Painting

  • Using provided materials, paint faces
  • Provide positive youth engagement at event 
  • Modulate/ manage time so as many participants can be served as possible
  • Keep application materials clean and inform staff if more materials are needed
  • Keep track of numbers of kids/ faces painted

Sports & Games Engagement

  • Set up and put away games/ sporting equipment
  • Provide positive reinforcement to people engaging in the games
  • Play parks provided games with kids if they don’t have a partner (bag toss, Jenga, jump rope, connect 4, axe throwing)
  • Supervise games among kids playing with each other
  • Provide instruction on how to play the game and enforce rules
  • Use discretion for younger kids to have fun and play too
  • Keep track of how many kids, games, etc.
  • Stamp game passports if needed
