Prescribed Burns in District 17
This year the City of Madison Engineering Division will be conducting prescribed burns on areas of existing native vegetation. Prescribed burns are an important management tool for Wisconsin’s native plant communities. The timeline for these burns to occur will be between March 1 and May 31. The correct conditions for prescribed burns can be difficult to predict, so it is not usually possible to provide exact dates, however I will send you an email alerting you the morning of the burn(s). Burns may not occur at all if correct weather conditions do not occur.
Prescribed burn(s) that will occur in the area include:
- Zeier Rd Biobasin; right-of-way adjacent to 1621 N Thompson Dr
- City View Pond; 2110 City View Dr
- Sycamore Park Pollinator Planting; 830 Jana Ln
The prescribed burn Project Manager will be mailing postcards to residents to notify them about the prescribed burn in their neighborhood.
All burns are being conducted by certified burn professionals with approval by Madison Fire Department. The burns will only take place under specific weather conditions in order to manage smoke and minimize impacts to neighbors. In addition, the burn professionals will install appropriate road signage on the day of the burn.
A list of project contacts and more information is on Parks website.
Follow up discussion on the Harm Reduction Drop In Center RFP (Dane County)
The Health and Human Needs Committee - Opioid Settlement Subcommittee will meet today and on their agenda is a discussion about the Harm Reduction Drop In Center RFP. I am planning to attend.
The meeting starts at 5pm and is in a hybrid format.
- Agenda
- To join the meeting in Zoom, click the following link (after you fill out the form, the meeting link and access information will be emailed to you): https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_jsADurV3TQy0aOEgzBKiOw
- In person: City County Building, Room 357, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Madison, WI 53703
- Watch the previous meeting where there was also discussion on this item. Starts at about 48 minutes in.
- Recent articles on the RFP:
- "The Board of Health for Madison and Dane County rejected CAYA’s proposal, but the $2.4 million is still available for Public Health Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) to use for other similar projects in the future. However, that means that the allocation of those resources will be delayed, and it does not mitigate all the harm that was done. Boughman and County Supervisor Rick Rose need to be held accountable." From Tone Madison
- “Rather than rushing to find a single organization through a compromised process, the board of supervisors should empower PHMDC to conduct a thorough community needs assessment, develop a clear vision for harm reduction services across Dane County and redesign a Request For Proposal process with robust transparency,” Glenn said in the meeting." From The Daily Cardinal
- "The Board of Health for Madison and Dane County unanimously rejected a proposed three-year, $2.4 million contract with CAYA Clinic to operate a harm reduction drop-in center on Madison’s East Side.
The vote to indefinitely postpone the resolution approving the contract comes a day after Madison365 reported that CAYA Clinic, the organization recommended for the contract by 10 evaluators, submitted a proposal that included many false statements regarding community partnerships and budgeted money for subcontractors who had not agreed to participate.
Dane County Corporation Counsel Carlos Pabellon clarified that a vote to postpone the resolution indefinitely has the same effect as a no vote." From Madison365
