Community Connection - Week of April 6th, 2026

posted

Hello, neighbors! This week is packed with important opportunities for our community to participate, stay informed, and connect. Whether you are heading to the polls, attending a public meeting, or joining a nature walk this weekend -- there is a place for you. Here is everything you need to know for the week ahead.

Your Voice Matters: Spring Election is Tuesday, April 7

Election Day is here! All polling places across Wisconsin are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7. Every person who casts a ballot shapes the future of our community. If you are in line by 8 p.m., you have the right to vote.

Visit MyVote Wisconsin to find your polling location, check your registration, and review what will be on your ballot. Do not let anything stand between you and your vote.

City Meetings: Your Chance to Be Heard

City boards and committees make decisions that affect daily life in District 18 -- from shelter services to construction in our neighborhoods. Attending or commenting lets decision-makers know what matters to you.

City-County Homeless Issues Committee -- Monday, April 6 at 5:30 p.m. (Virtual)

This meeting will include an update on the Men's Shelter, a resource that serves people in our community who are experiencing homelessness. Anyone who cares about making sure our neighbors have safe, stable places to be is encouraged to attend or submit public comment.

Board of Public Works -- Wednesday, April 8 at 4:30 p.m. (Virtual)

The Board of Public Works agenda includes construction management items affecting District 18 directly. If you have questions or concerns about road and infrastructure work in our neighborhood, this is a meeting worth following.

Public Input Meetings: Help Shape Our City

Draft Pedestrian Plan -- Tuesday, April 7 at 6:00 p.m. (Virtual)

Madison is updating its Pedestrian Plan for the first time in nearly 30 years. This plan will guide how our city improves safety, comfort, and accessibility for everyone who walks -- whether by choice or necessity. The virtual meeting on April 7 will walk through key recommendations and include time for your questions. People who walk, use mobility aids, or care about accessible streets are especially encouraged to participate.

Visit the meeting event page for connection details and to review the Draft Pedestrian Plan in advance.

West Towne Shared-Use Path (Phase 2b) -- Thursday, April 9 at 6:00 p.m.

This project will complete a key segment of the West Towne Shared-Use Path, expanding safe, accessible routes for people biking, walking, and rolling on Madison's growing west side -- and connecting our neighborhood to regional paths. Registration is required to attend.

Visit the event page to register and learn more.
