Officers de-escalate woman in crisis at library

Madison officers responded to a library to help an armed person who was feeling suicidal.

Officers were dispatched to the Hawthorne Branch of the Madison Public Library system around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

While Officers negotiated and de-escalated with the woman, Library staff helped get other people inside the building to a safe space.

The woman voluntarily agreed to get additional help, which MPD facilitated.

Officers consulted with mental health officers and mental health professionals to bring this incident to a safe resolution.
