April-June 2026

  1. Recognition for an officer and the overall great job he is doing. The officer was described as proactive, does great follow-up, and a real asset to the district.
  2. Recognition for the officers who, for 3 consecutive weeks, hosted a Defensive Tactics Instructor course which is the longest WI DOJ LESB approved instructor course. The instructors not only had to teach for a full 8 hours each day, they undoubtedly spent much more time before and after class, to review and revise lesson plans based on the students' development. MPD is fortunate to have such well-versed and team-oriented Master Instructor Trainers and MIT assistants developing the next generation of DT instructors.
  3. Recognition for the officers who trained officers and supervisors on the TASER 10 as part of a transition course from the legacy X26P device. This physical skills training is a significant undertaking given the number of repetitions we must provide new operators to be proficient, the high degree of safety that must be followed, and the time elapsed since the last T10 training we conducted. The instructors all demonstrated excellent device manipulation, ran an efficient and effective training given the limited time allotted, and prepared this new cohort of T10 users very well.
  4. Recognition for two officers who were both very flexible with some last minute requests related to a SET new member training. The officers were both extremely adaptable and helpful.  They are to be commended for their great attitudes and willingness to pitch in.
  5. Recognition for the officers who assisted with a full team training for the SET Advanced Security and Protection (ASP) team. They are all to be recognized for their time, talents, lesson plans, and teamwork to make the training a successful team building exercise.
  6. Recognition for an officer who created and ran an excellent firearms lesson plan for a recent training. The officer showed exemplary dedication to the core value of continuous improvement. His course of fire challenged the team and was done safely and with consideration towards the needs of the team for dignitary protection work.
  7. An officer was conducting proactive patrol when a vehicle caught their attention. A traffic stop was conducted. A K9 was requested and yielded a positive alert. A large amount of drugs were seized. Subjects were detained/arrested. The officers on this call are to be commended for their efforts. The officers collaborated on this traffic stop to safely detain the subjects, recover/remove drugs from our community, and arrest those involved.
  8. An officer responded to a weapons offense call with several subjects arguing and a handgun being involved. The officer arrived quickly and was able to detain one of the subjects who was trying to leave the area. The subject resisted the officer. The officer was able to detain the subject. Drugs, a knife, a loaded pistol, and cash were all located/recovered. This call is indicative of the officer's willingness to investigate dangerous quality of life crimes. He is to be commended for his efforts.
  9. An officer was attempting to locate a wanted violent subject when they were advised the subject was in the area. Additional resources responded to assist on this call. A perimeter was established. The subject was observed. A K9 was utilized to track down the subject. The subject was located hiding in a bush. The subject was taken into custody. This call involved excellent discipline by the perimeter units who maintained their positions for approximately 45 minutes, forcing the subject to maintain their position and attempt to hide. All personnel on this call showed exceptional communication, coordination, and teamwork in arresting a dangerous subject.
  10. An officer responded to an overdose call. The officer arrived on scene and was met by the caller who was hysterical. The officer maintained a professional and calm demeanor, assessed the subject who had overdosed, and administered naloxone to the subject. MFD took over lifesaving efforts. The officer is to be commended for their composure, clear and concise radio traffic, and for their actions that contributed to a life saved.
  11. An officer volunteered to donate some windows from their home for some breach training for their platoon. The officer built a rack to accommodate the windows to facilitate the training. The officer is to be commended for his dedication to training and to his platoon by volunteering the materials and his time to assist.
  12. Officers assisted another city agency with discarding a mound of clothes, blankets and other items that had become a hygiene and community safety issue. The officers are to be commended for taking on a problem that was unsanitary and unsafe.
  13. Recognition for MPD's TEST Team, along with their command staff, who conduct traffic enforcement daily in areas that demonstrate a high volume of complaints. In the month of February, this team issued 842 citations/warnings. Their visibility and steadfast determination to keep our roadways safer are appreciated and have not gone unnoticed.
  14. Recognition for an officer who wrote 61 citations/warnings in February to traffic offenders. The officer is to be commended for his dedication to traffic enforcement which causes safety concerns for our community.
  15. Recognition for an officer who issued 52 citations/warnings for speeders and other traffic offenders in February. The officer takes all of his calls for service in addition to policing our streets to keep our community safer.
  16. Recognition for an officer who issued 36 citations/warnings for speeders and other traffic offenders in February. The officer is to be commended for his efforts to keep our community/streets safer.
  17. Recognition for an officer who in February issued 181 traffic citations/warnings which helps keep our city and streets safer for motorists and pedestrians.
  18. In February an officer issued 51 traffic citations/warnings. The officer is to be commended for his commitment to making our community safer.
  19. Officers responded to what was originally dispatched as a structure fire. Dispatch updated officers that the callers were stating that someone started their house on fire. Information was gathered, including a suspect's name and vehicle they were traveling in. A last known location of the vehicle was aired. A deputy located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect ended up shooting themselves before the deputy made contact with them. Officers interviewed residents of the home, gathered evidence, took photos, and gathered information on what took place prior to the suspect arriving at the residence. The quick work by the officers on this call in getting information out potentially prevented further acts of violence. The officers involved in this investigation and in all phases of this call all acted quickly to help in whatever ways were needed and demonstrated great teamwork and dedication.
  20. An officer developed information related to a wanted subject. A plan was put together to locate and apprehend the subject. The subject was safely taken into custody. The officers on this call are to be commended for their teamwork and efforts to take a wanted subject into custody.
  21. Recognition for an officer who located a wanted subject. The officer detained and interviewed the subject. The officer assisted the subject with problem solving who could help take care of a family member that the subject was a caregiver to. The officer is to be commended for their safe apprehension of a wanted and dangerous suspect while also showing care and compassion for the subject and their family member.
  22. An email was sent to thank two officers for their help when they responded to a call reference a check welfare of a subject. The officers were described as very helpful and that they took a collaborative approach in working with on site staff and the CARES team. While officers were handling this situation, another person asked to speak with the officers about another situation. The officers quickly and smoothly transitioned to support with that situation as well. The officers listened patiently and asked thoughtful questions in order to provide support and assistance to the family. The officers handled these delicate situations with great patience, professionalism, and compassion.
  23. An email was sent to thank an officer for helping their adult son during a mental health crisis. The email stated the officer helped their son almost 1 year ago as well. The officer was described as supportive to their son and also to them. The officer was further described as professional, caring, calm, and easy to talk with. Their family wanted the officer to know they greatly appreciated him.
  24. A letter was sent by a community member to thank two officers who assisted them when they fell at an event. They said the officers were so kind to check on them and help them. They wanted the officers to know how much they appreciated their kindness.
  25. Officers responded to an apartment complex for a chaotic weapons offense call. Numerous callers reported a male subject yelling and that a victim had been stabbed. Officers arrived quickly to the area and located the victim who suffered a stab wound. The officers rendered medical aid to the victim. While officers assisted the victim, other officers checked areas for the suspect. The suspect was observed running away. Officers pursued the suspect and were able to apprehend them. The suspect was interviewed and provided a confession to the stabbing. Officers located the scene, maintained standing at the scene, canvassed the area, identified witnesses, gathered statements and searched the residence. This incident required tremendous teamwork, professionalism, and compassion from all involved.
  26. Recognition for an officer and her outstanding work related to stopping a suspect who was believed to be involved in several vehicle break-ins. The officer responded to a report of a suspicious person by proactively assigning herself the call. The officer observed the suspect and detained the suspect. Probable cause was established to arrest/charge the suspect. A search incident to arrest yielded incriminating evidence. This was outstanding proactive work by the officer that resulted in an arrest.
  27. Recognition for an officer and her outstanding and proactive work in locating a suspect related to a substantial criminal damage to property complaint. A suspect, after causing damage to a business, fled. The officer proactively assigned herself to the call and began checking the area. The officer observed the suspect, detained the suspect, and arrested the suspect. The officer is to be recognized for this outstanding proactive work that resulted in an arrest.
  28. A family member gave recognition to two employees for their assistance, patience, and understanding with helping their family member who was having a mental health episode. The family was appreciative of their quick response, their diligence, and early intervention in the matter.
  29. Recognition for the incredible work done by an officer. The officer was described as being a prime example of what it means to be a Mental Health Officer. The officer was asked to assist with a subject who had recent calls for service with police. The officer looked into the call(s) and developed problem-solving solutions. The officer stayed beyond his hours to ensure there was a resolution. The officer is to be commended for his commitment.
  30. Officers responded, both on and off-duty, to a crash that involved a dump truck and a school bus filled with children. Officers responded quickly to the scene to work with MFD to identify and treat wounded children, maintain a safe area for all to work in with traffic control, and work with large numbers of school staff, parents, and other parties that were at, and arriving at, the scene. This was complicated as we reached rush hour in Madison, with this area regularly experiencing high traffic volume in this location. All personnel on this call are to be commended for handling a highly-charged situation, while remaining calm and professional, and juggling multiple tasks.
  31. An officer responded to a sexual assault of a child investigation and was tasked with speaking with the victim. The officer conducted a thorough interview with the victim, identifying multiple sexual assaults over several years. The officer did an excellent job moving at the victim's pace and did her best to make the victim feel comfortable. The officer updated the supervisor throughout the investigation and asked appropriate questions about next steps in the investigation. The officer gathered/collected/documented evidence. The officer authored a detective-level report documenting her contact with the victim. The officer then approached the supervisor to ask if she could continue the investigation with the detective's assistance. The officer conducted follow-up and an interview was attempted with the suspect. Probable cause was developed to arrest the suspect. The officer also conducted interviews with witnesses, photographed the scene of the assaults, and drafted a search warrant for the suspect's cell phone. The officer shows a consistent interest in conducting case follow-up and seeks detective assistance when needed. She wants to learn and improve, which is a valuable trait for anyone who wants to transition into a detective role. The officer is to be recognized and commended for her efforts in this case.
  32. An officer is to be recognized for his self-initiated drug interdiction, leading to an arrest and drug seizure. The officer observed a suspicious vehicle and conducted surveillance. The officer observed a hand-to-hand transaction take place. The officer conducted a traffic stop. The officer observed obvious furtive movement as the driver handed items to the passenger. The subjects in the vehicle were removed from the vehicle and detained. The investigation led to cocaine being discovered. The driver was arrested on drug-related charges. The passenger was cited/released. The officer is to be commended on his outstanding efforts and actions on this call.
  33. Officers responded to a weapons offense with a reported stabbing. Officers provided medical aid to the victim. Officers detained the suspect. The residence was cleared and the scene was stabilized. The initial response is commendable as the priority was clearly well understood - the victim was to be treated, the suspect detained, entire property cleared and the scene stabilized. After the fast-paced initial response, the officers on scene pivoted their service to investigations without any prompt. Officers remained with the victim and conducted a thorough interview. The suspect also received medical attention and an interview was conducted. All on this call are to be recognized and commended.
  34. Officers assisted a family from out of state locate their missing child (an adult) who was believed to be in danger. The personnel on this call worked through many barriers including but not limited to very little initial information, inaccurate phone pings, cultural and language barriers. The subject was located safe and two suspects were arrested. The victim returned home safely to their family.
  35. Recognition for an officer who showed excellent initiative and commitment to community partnership in coordinating a tour for police personnel at Our Lady Queen of Peace School.  The officer is to be recognized for his continued hard work and effort to support MPD's mission and core values.
  36. An officer responded to a domestic disturbance. The officer conducted a very thorough investigation. Charges were drafted and referred for felony domestic violence offenses. The officer is to be recognized for his efforts and actions to bring justice for the victim.
  37. Officers responded to a domestic disturbance. Officers heard the sounds of a physical struggle when they arrived on scene. Their swift decision making and bravery in this stressful situation resulted in the arrest of a suspect. Their actions are very much appreciated by both the community and by their co-worker who is a neighborhood police officer in the neighborhood.
  38. An officer observed a subject/vehicle that was involved in an earlier attempted vehicle theft. The officer observed the subject attempt to steal another vehicle. The officer tried to detain the subject. The subject fled on foot. The officer called out the foot pursuit accurately which allowed officers to set up a perimeter. The subject was taken into custody. The teamwork on this call was seamless and is appreciated and is to be recognized.
  39. An email was sent through our website for an officer who assisted someone who had dropped their wallet.  The wallet was located and returned to the owner. The owner was appreciative of the officer locating him and returning his personal property.
  40. Recognition for an officer who is an active member of Amigos en Azul. The officer frequently takes on additional responsibilities within the group despite working the night shift and having limited time and energy to commit to tasks. The officer has proactively established new relationships within the community and has mended damaged relationships as well. Her ability to continue building on the positive relationships we already have, as well as fix the ones that needed attention, speaks to her ability to connect with the community on a deeper level. Her passion for community engagement is very obvious and her dedication deserves to be recognized.
  41. Recognition for the officers who volunteered their time to assist with the Public Safety Cadets meeting. This meeting and training would not have been possible without the flexibility of schedules.
  42. Officers responded to a noise complaint. The caller expressed their appreciation for the officers' professionalism and their ability to assist in problem-solving the complaint. The officers are to be acknowledged and commended for their efforts.
  43. Officers responded to a difficult call (suicide). Officers handled this call with great compassion and understanding of the family's needs. Officers provided the family with the pertinent information, comforted them, and answered all of their questions. Each officer played an essential part in this investigation. They each handled this call with humility, professionalism, and tact. Special recognition to our peer support officer who responded quickly to check in on the officers and assist with their needs.
  44. Recognition for officers who all worked as a cohesive team to return a stolen vehicle and apprehend the suspects who were operating the vehicle. Areas were checked and the stolen vehicle was located in a ditch unoccupied. K9s conducted a track. Numerous callers reported subjects were running through backyards in the area. The suspects were located by a drone in a backyard. The suspects fled in different directions but were all apprehended. All involved on this call should be commended for their team effort that ended in the successful and safe apprehension of the suspects.
  45. Officers responded to a subject shooting a BB gun, which looks like a real gun, and stabbing a tree with a knife. The subject made suicidal statements. Officers did a fantastic job of responding and handling a complex situation. Officers attempted to deescalate and dialogue with the subject, who was not cooperative. Less lethal tools were used to detain the subject. The BB gun was located in the woods. All on this call are to be commended for their efforts and actions that led to a safe resolution.
  46. Recognition for the outstanding response to an armed subject complaint. The officers quickly responded and located a subject matching the description provided. The subject was contacted and detained. A handgun was located in the subject's bag. The subject was interviewed. Probable cause was developed to arrest the subject. This was an outstanding proactive stop and frisk on a subject who matched the description of an armed gunman in a heavily populated area following the Mifflin Street event.
  47. An officer was primary on a violent domestic involving a weapon. The officer took his time on this call, built rapport with the victim, and completed a thorough investigation. After spending several hours at the hospital with the victim, the officer authored a 15-page report describing in great detail what happened, the elements of crime committed, witness information, and evidence to be further pursued. The officer's investigation was commended by the victim who felt like they were heard.
  48. Recognition for employees who stepped up to provide the SET ASP team with their assistance as actors as the team put on the ASP 101 class for new members. They agreed to come in for this assignment outside of their normal work hours. The officers were both compelling actors who made the use of force scenarios more believable for the attendees and improved the learning they received during the class as a whole.
  49. Recognition for an officer who was dispatched to a disturbance at a night a club. The call was reference an intoxicated subject who had been physical with staff. The officer made contact with the subject upon arrival. The officer attempted to dialogue with the subject. The subject ignored the officer and tried to leave the area. The subject was detained and frisked. A loaded handgun was located on the subject. The subject was arrested. The officer conducted excellent work on this incident.
  50. Another law enforcement agency sent letters of recognition for several officers who assisted with a traffic incident in their jurisdiction. The letters stated their agency deeply appreciates the role our officers' played in supporting their officer and agency when it mattered most. It went on to state that the officers' efforts were noticed and appreciated.
  51. Recognition for officers' response, efforts, and actions to a threats complaint. The officers recognized the imminency of the threat, plugged in a crisis worker to assess the subject's mental well-being, and crafted a safely plan to ensure continued safety of the community. The work completed by the officers is appreciated.
  52. Officers responded to a report of a subject shot. Officers arrived to a chaotic scene. The victim was located. Officers performed lifesaving aid on the victim. This call involved excellent teamwork. Officers set up interior and exterior perimeters, searched for the suspect, cleared buildings, collected evidence, conducted interviews, and processed the scene. The suspect was located and detained. The efforts by everyone on this call contributed to a successful initial resolution of the very serious incident and they are all to be recognized for their actions.
  53. Officers responded to a situation with a juvenile diagnosed with autism breaking glass and throwing chairs. The officers on this call displayed patience, compassion, and never lost their composure despite the juvenile being disruptive physically as they were on scene. The juvenile was spitting, biting, and kicking at officers. The officers communicated clearly on what their actions were. They did not add more chaos to an already chaotic call. The officers were kind to the parents and communicated to them on what they were doing and why, as well as what next steps would be. The officers were poised and tactful despite this being a physically exhausting call. They showed our core values during this call and demonstrated dependability and an exceptional performance of duty.
  54. Officers responded to a weapons offense incident where a firearm was pointed at 2 subjects and the suspect fled. Officers conducted a thorough investigation. The suspect vehicle was located. The suspect was contacted and ultimately arrested on numerous charges. A loaded gun was located/recovered. This was excellent police work including both the investigation and the tactics.
  55. Officers received a request to help locate and check the welfare of a missing adult. Officers made contact with the family and gathered the necessary information. The residence of the subject was entered and the subject was not located but a suicide note was. The officers were kind and empathetic with the family. An emergency phone ping for the subject was conducted. Areas were canvassed. The subject made contact with a family member. Arrangements were made to contact the subject in-person. The subject was conveyed to a local hospital for an evaluation. The officers demonstrated initiative and perseverance on this call spending hours looking for the subject. They demonstrated exceptional dependability and performance of their duties. They are all to be commended for their hard work and dedication.
  56. Recognition for several employees for their leadership and willingness to manage an event like Mifflin and all the events afterward in reference to a fairly new sergeant being on the streets. Without their help and communication they could have easily been overwhelmed. Sergeants took control of management of staffing in the downtown area to bolster the normal patrol and DSI resources. They are to be thanked and commended for their professionalism and willingness to step and serve the city.
  57. Officers were assigned to a battery investigation involving multiple subjects. Subjects were contacted and interviewed. Probable cause was developed to arrest two suspects. Officers worked together to run a series of data checks to confirm the identities of the suspects and find an address associated with the vehicle. Officers coordinated with another law enforcement agency to locate the involved vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and the suspects were detained. Drugs and cash were located on the subjects. The officers on this call worked hard, uncovered valuable information and evidence, and did an overall exceptional job on this call.
  58. A community member sent an email to praise an officer who had an hour long conversation with them after they witnessed a large scuffle and police response very late at night. The officer was described as being extremely cordial in his demeanor and willing to talk about the philosophy and morality surrounding policing. They stated community policing is extremely important for police-community relations and the officer's willingness to open up to him after a likely stressful and annoying situation to talk about controversial topics is a telling sign of the officer's good character and the high standard he likely holds himself to.
  59. A community member sent an email to thank an officer who responded to assist them when they thought they had a package stolen.
  60. Recognition for the officers and their outstanding actions as it relates to apprehending a sexual assault suspect. Officers observed the suspect and apprehended them after they tried to flee. The suspect was arrested on numerous serious charges. This investigation involved quick outstanding efforts and actions by everyone on scene. This call also involved excellent teamwork!
  61. Recognition for an officer and his outstanding, proactive drug investigation that started after observing suspicious behavior. The officer conducted an investigative stop. The officer applied constitutional law knowledge and conducted a frisk of the vehicle for weapons or dangerous instruments. That frisk showcased probable cause to then search the vehicle and in doing so, a weapon and drugs were located/recovered. This call involved exceptional observations, tactics, and success by the officer.
  62. Personnel were assigned a harassment/TRO violation case. Numerous concerns were identified about the suspect. Staff jumped on this case and helped find intelligence, background info, and tried to identify the suspect's location. A location was determined. The suspect was quickly located and arrested. All on this call are to be commended for their efforts, actions, and teamwork.
  63. Recognition for an officer who served as MPD's lead coordinator in planning and leading an estimated 38 motors to and from various locations throughout the city for an event. The officer selected a route and worked with a group of squad and motors to ensure that metro traffic was still possible during the event. The officer's collaborative efforts before, during, and after the event led to a safe and respectful event which was enjoyed by family members of fallen law enforcement officers as well as current law enforcement from around the state. The officer's extra effort in this event go well beyond what we typically expect from our officers and is a testament to his commitment to our TEST motor unit and our agency as a whole.
  64. A detective sent an email regarding excellent police work officers did on a case. The email stated that due to the great work on the case it will likely lead to charging in both a city weapons offense and an attempted homicide. The case involved a search warrant being executed which resulted in a gun being located/collected as evidence and a vehicle being impounded. The officers on the call went the extra mile which will likely lead to much more severe charges for the suspects. The officers on this call are to be commended for their hard work.
  65. Recognition for an officer who is very responsive to community members' traffic complaints/enforcement requests. The officer's initiative and his commitment to the safety of our community members is to be commended.
  66. Officers responded to a theft turned armed robbery incident. Two suspects fled from the store after stealing merchandise and making threatening statements. The suspects were quickly located and detained after a foot pursuit took place. The stolen property was recovered. The responding officers did a phenomenal job apprehending two violent, resistive offenders, who chose to attempt this robbery at a time when State Street was heavily crowded with pedestrian traffic. The officers on this call demonstrated fantastic teamwork and their actions are to be recognized.
  67. Recognition for an officer by a co-worker who explained that the officer continues to show exemplary kindness and patience when dealing with numerous subjects throughout our community, particularly those affected by mental health or crisis situations. 3 calls for service were described which showcased the officer's work. Call 1 - officer was a gentle and effective communicator with a subject who was in an escalated state of mind and fearful of the police. Call 2 - officer persuaded an elderly dementia patient to return to their group home with their caregiver when they were adamant that they would not do so. Call 3 - officer worked through a runaway juvenile call and locate a safe place for the juvenile who refused to return home. The officer's ability to speak to others and effectively diffuse situations has continuously been impressive. He goes above and beyond when finding effective dispositions for strained situations.
  68. Recognition for the training officers who assisted with a return to duty training for a co-worker. The training officers all demonstrated a high level of commitment to training as they embraced different roles across the topics covered and took extra steps to make a class-of-one as beneficial to the student and as proximate to an actual professional development training day as possible. The employee returning to duty was grateful for their time and how the training went. 
  69. An officer conducted a traffic stop with a driver that was immediately uncooperative. Additional officers responded to assist. The subject resisted officers and threatened officers. The subject bit an officer. Due to the subject's size and resistive behaviors, it took numerous officers to gain control of the subject. The officers demonstrated sound tactics and decision making and were able to successfully extract the subject from the vehicle. The officers also demonstrated fantastic composure and professionalism throughout the incident.
  70. Officers responded to a check person request where a subject claimed to have another subject in their basement and was holding them against their will. Information was gathered on the subject who has a long history of having firearms, using drugs, and being volatile. Officers arrived on scene and gained visual of the residence. A contact team was formed. Calls were made into the residence and subjects were convinced to come out of the home. The home was cleared with no one else located. The officers on this call treated the call with a high degree of professionalism. The call involved excellent communication, coordination, and teamwork.
  71. Recognition for the staff who volunteered their time to provide Active Shooter Incident Management training for the MFD pre-service academy. Everyone involved assisted by filling officer roles during scenarios so the MFD recruits could see how our agencies will work together during an active threat response. Thanks to their efforts, an additional 21 first responders are now trained in ASIM and better prepared to save lives in these incidents.
  72. An email was sent to thank an officer who conducted a check welfare on their brother. The email described the officer as rigorous, professional, speedy, and patient. They appreciated the officer's communication as well.
  73. Recognition for an officer who responded to a local hospital to assist with an uncooperative patient. The officer's interactions with the patient's mother displayed compassion, kindness, and genuine concern for her well-being as well as the well-being of their child. The officer developed true rapport with her and helped ease her distress.
  74. Recognition for an officer who performed an outstanding investigation of a domestic violence victim who had been significantly injured. The officer was patient in speaking with the victim and provided them with support. The officer's investigation and interview were remarkable. The officer's initiative and skills on this case should be recognized. He performed well-above what is expected of patrol and treated the victim with respect and care.
  75. Recognition for the officers and staff who participated in MPD's inaugural Bread & Badges program which helped create meaningful connections between MPD and those in our community. Our staff took time away from their daily duties to sit down, listen, and learn about the experiences of community members. This helped build stronger relationships and trust through honest dialogue and personal connection.
  76. Recognition for officers who showed outstanding patience and kindness to a child who was experiencing a mental health crisis and harming themselves. The officers spoke gently to the child in an attempt to de-escalate, as well as conducted necessary and appropriate actions when the child began slamming their head against the floors and walls. The officers were then able to completely de-escalate the child to the point where they were capable of being transported to a local hospital without any issue. The officers are to be commended for their efforts and actions on this call.
  77. Recognition for officers and their excellent work on two special assignments they conducted through their membership of the SET ASP team. Officers demonstrated dependability and competent leadership skills in the development of an operation plan, delegation of duties, and performance on the day of the event. The officers are to be commended for their competence and flexibility.
  78. An officer responded to a juvenile disturbance on a public bus. The officer collected detained information about the disturbance from the juvenile victim and their mother. The officer identified the offending juveniles and contacted their parents. The officer collected and documented video of the disturbance. The officer conducted a detailed investigation. The officer also conducted follow-up on this call. A restorative justice referral was provided to the offending juvenile which satisfied the victim/parent. The officer did a fantastic investigation and came to an appropriate resolution. She is to be commended for her work and taking on the extra follow-up.
  79. Recognition for the compassion and patience officers showed to a very traumatized and reluctant domestic violence victim. The officers recognized the delicacy of the situation and the significant fear the victim was experiencing. They worked to develop a safety plan. Their patience and understanding were critical in the victim's willingness to speak with police despite their fear.
  80. An officer responded to an internet crime investigation at a local school. The officer collected detailed information from school staff and the juvenile victim. The officer gathered social media information, obtained a history of the offending/suspect juvenile, and showed compassion to the victim while getting all the needed information for the investigation. The officer conducted a thorough investigation and did an excellent job documenting that investigation in their report. They are to be commended for going above and beyond in order to provide the victim some piece of mind.
  81. Officers responded to a complex sexual assault of a child investigation. An officer met with school staff and CPS to obtain detailed information about the disclosure. The interview of the child yielded multiple incidents of sexual assault by a family member. Evidence was collected. The victim/family was supported by the officers. The suspect was arrested. All involved in this investigation did an excellent job and likely saved this child from a life of continued sexual abuse. They are all to be commended for their efforts.
  82. An officer responded to a sexual assault of a child investigation. The officer met with school staff and collected information about the disclosure. The officer met with family members. The officer worked with CPS to develop a safety plan for the child. The officer spent hours collecting information and documenting his efforts in an excellent report. Due to the officer's efforts, detectives were able to immediately hit the ground running on this case and a suspect was arrested. The officer should be commended for the work he did protecting a child from a life of further abuse.
  83. A detective responded to a patrol call reference drug-endangered neglect. The detective recognized the complexities of the investigation and reached out to MPD's Special Victims Unit for guidance. The detective conducted a detailed interview of the suspect parent. The detective obtained consent to search the home which led to the collection of drug evidence. The detective did an excellent job managing a very chaotic scene while directly the investigation. The detective collected copious medical and education records to help prove the neglect for neglect charges. The detective is to be commended for her work on this case.
  84. Officers responded to a school for a child abuse investigation. School staff was contacted and talked to. Officers gathered important background information as well as the details of the disclosure. CPS was looped in and field interviews with the victim took place. Injuries were observed and photographed. The suspect parent was contacted and interviewed. The suspect parent was arrested. Officers on this call assisted with interviews, collecting evidence, assisting CPS with placing the children, and completing thorough detective-level reports documenting all of their efforts. They are all to be commended for their work on this investigation.
  85. A community member who received a traffic citation wrote a note thanking the officer for their candor and professionalism.
  86. Recognition for the training programs developed by several officers. The courses addressed acute needs in a law enforcement officer's training regime - training off duty carry considerations and maintaining/rehabilitating physical readiness in a physically demanding job.  The instructors of these courses are to be commended for sharing their passion and expertise with members of the MPD.
  87. Officers were dispatched to a report of a suicidal subject. A phone ping was conducted. The subject's vehicle was located. Areas were canvassed and the subject was located. The subject called MPD later to express their appreciation for the care and compassion by all the officers involved. The officers on this call are to be commended for their efforts and actions to help someone in need.
  88. Recognition for a co-worker who assisted with a Spanish translation of a child victim interview. The family of the victim was appreciative of the officer being able to translate for them. The officer is always willing to assist without hesitation.
  89. Recognition for the efforts and actions of officers who responded to a suicidal and homicidal subject who made claims to also harm their infant. Officers did a great job as more resources were responding to the scene. An apartment was cleared, a K9 track was conducted, phone contact was able to be made with the subject, and the infant was located safe. Efforts continued to be made to locate and contact the subject. Detectives assisted with this call. Phone calls were made to try to locate the subject. Phone ping was conducted. A drone was utilized. The subject was ultimately located safe as well. A safety plan was developed. The work on this call is to be recognized as all involved performed with exceptional efforts and actions to ensure the infant and the parent were both safe and had the necessary resources.
  90. Recognition for our staff (60 of them) who are instructors and put their time and talents to work for their colleagues at MPD this spring. Professional development simply does not happen without a committed cadre of instructors. Their roles are either physically demanding, mentally taxing, or a combination of both. The instructors demonstrated professionalism, flexibility, selflessness, and a commitment to continuous improvement and proficiency.
  91. Officer is recognized for her outstanding efforts related to an OMVWI-3rd offense investigation and arrest. Officers responded to what was reported as an active vehicle theft (motorcycle) in progress. The officer arrived quickly to the area and observed a subject driving a motorcycle outbound on Williamson Street. The subject and motorcycle matched the description provided by the caller. The officer initiated a traffic stop/investigative stop (Terry Stop) and quickly determined the driver was impaired. The subject was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (3rd offense) as well as several other felony charges. The officer is to be commended for her efforts on this call.
  92. Recognition for an officer and his outstanding efforts related to a sexual assault investigation. The victim flagged down the officer. The officer obtained preliminary suspect information, aired it via radio, and continued to communicate updates to additional resources being plugged in.  Areas were checked for the suspect. The officer located the suspect and developed probable cause to arrest the suspect. The officer obtained a confession from the suspect. The officer is to be recognized for his efforts and actions on this call.
  93. An officer initiated an investigation of possible grooming by a teacher. The officer spoke with the concerned parent about the teacher's behavior. The officer did not rush through the call; instead she spent a great deal of time listening to the parent and then documenting the information. The officer conducted research about the new grooming statute and developed a plan as to who she would wan tot speak with to continue the investigation. The teacher's behavior ended up not rising to the level of a criminal charge. The officer, despite this, took the time to listen and thoroughly document the teacher's behaviors and the and the student/parent concerns. The parents appreciated that the officer took their concerns seriously and spent time investigating their concerns. The officer is to be commended for her work on this case.
  94. Recognition for two officers' and their outstanding and proactive traffic enforcement. They spent a significant amount of time during their overnight shift conducting traffic proactive operations on John Nolen Drive (active construction zone with worker present). They organized and executed these efforts by themselves, proactively. A total of 11 different stops were conducted for a variety of hazardous offenses, including 1 stop for a driver going against one-way traffic. This was an exceptional initiative and the officers are to be commended for their efforts and actions.
  95. Officers conducted a traffic stop and an occupant fled from the vehicle. A perimeter was set up and a K9 track was conducted. The subject was observed running. Officers did an exceptional job during this foot pursuit maintaining visual, calling out the subject's movements, and ultimately apprehending the subject. This call involved good tactics, good decision making, and excellent communication to take a subject into custody.
  96. An officer was dispatched to a fraud investigation. The officer did a thorough job of obtaining information and discovered that the suspects in this case had generated several complaints to the better business bureau in multiple states. The officer conferred with a financial crimes detective to ensure they were taking the proper investigative steps. The officer developed a plan to meet with staff from the suspected business. The officer was able to ID a suspect, collect evidence, and forward the appropriate information to a financial crimes detective for further follow-up.  The officer went above and beyond a routine response to this type of call. This response is indicative of the officer's commitment to criminal investigations, holding criminals accountable, and providing tireless efforts to investigate crimes. He is to be commended for his efforts.
  97. An officer responded to a bus vs. truck hauling a boat crash. The driver of the truck/boat left the scene before officers arrived. A description of the truck/boat was provided. Areas were checked and the truck/boat were located at a boat launch. The driver was not on scene. The officer was able to get in contact with the truck driver and cite them. The officer thoroughly investigated this call and worked on tracking down the other driver. The officer is to be commended for their thorough investigation, initiative, and exceptional dependability.
  98. An officer was on light duty for 5 days and during this time he took 29 calls as the station officer assisting all districts. The officer showed true dedication to the community and his co-workers. The officer is to be commended for his efforts and dedication.
  99. Officers responded to sounds of a subject screaming, pacing, and throwing things at other people. Officers observed a subject matching the description provided and made contact. The subject was uncooperative. Officers attempted to dialogue with the subject. Probable cause had been developed to arrest the subject. Officers went to place the subject under arrest when the subject became violently resistive towards them (including striking an officer in the head). The subject was transported to the jail and placed in seg for their continued behavior. The officers are to be commended for their investigation and for staying in the fight even after a significant attack. The officers displayed exceptional teamwork and efforts.  They are to be recognized for their actions.
  100. Recognition for an officer who assisted with a ride-along. The officer's willingness to help reflects great credit upon himself and his selfless attitude and service are to be recognized.
  101. Officers responded to a disturbance involving several family members. Officers arrived on scene to an active disturbance. A subject assaulted one of the police officers as they were trying to deescalate the incident. The subject was able to be taken into custody. The officers on this call kept their poise and remained calm. They are to be commended for their actions, for staying focused, and for bringing the chaotic situation to a close.
  102. Recognition for a detective who coordinated with DOC agents to develop a meet and greet event. This event allowed for detectives to meet with over 30 DOC agents. The detective excelled at explaining what their detective unit investigates, how they have worked with P&P in the past, and hopes for how they can work together in the future. The detective exemplifies procedural justice by engaging, relating, listening, and explaining how the two agencies can work together. The detective is to be commended for her commitment to improving the working partnership between two criminal justice stakeholders.
  103. Officers responded to a bridge for a suicidal subject. All involved on this call are to be commended for their efforts and actions. Officers were able to successfully dialogue with the subject and bring them to safety. The communication skills, coordination, radio traffic, and teamwork were all excellent on this call.
  104. Recognition for the efforts and actions of numerous officers on a call that resulted in felony arrests and guns being located/recovered. Officers were able to identify and apprehended numerous offenders that had fled on foot. Two guns were recovered. All involved on this call are to be commended for their efforts and actions.
  105. An email was submitted thanking an officer for going "above and beyond to help a desperate woman in a time of need." The officer was described as being very kind.
  106. A driver involved in a crash left a voicemail to give appreciation to the responding officer. The officer was described as wonderful, assisted with communication between the parties on scene, professional, calming, and provided comfort to those involved.  They were impressed by the officer and wanted them to know how much they appreciated them
  107. Officers responded to a report of a subject swinging a knife around. Officers arrived on scene and it was believed the subject went into an apartment unit. Phone calls were attempted but were unsuccessful. Contact made with the subject from a distance and dialogue took place. The subject was semi-cooperative and was taken into custody safely. The officers on this call are to be commended for their cohesiveness and professionalism.
  108. An email was submitted thanking the officers for their efforts at the Am Fam Championship. The officers were described as fantastic and left a positive impression with the organizers. 
  109. Officers responded to an attempted armed robbery incident. The caller reported observing a subject try to steal a purse. The caller honked and the subject ran away. Officers arrived in the area and obtained statements from the victim and witness. Officers set up a perimeter and canvassed the area for the suspect. The suspect was located and arrested. All involved on this call are to be commended for their efforts, diligent work, and collaboration with 2 other law enforcement agencies.
  110. A traffic stop was attempted and the driver/suspect was able to flee. The suspect cut off their GPS monitoring device. Officers conducted follow-up and learned that the suspect had illegal access to firearms. A subpoena was authored for the suspect's phone records and through surveillance and building a relationship with a property manager was able to confirm where the suspect was staying. A warrant was authored for the suspect. An apprehension operation was initiated. The suspect was located and arrested. Multiple handguns were located. This case illustrates how this team worked collaboratively to build relationships with internal work groups, external criminal justice partners, and members of the community. The end result was the removal of illegal firearms from the street and accountability for a dangerous suspect while minimizing risk to the public. All on this incident are to be commended for their efforts and actions.
  111. Recognition for an officer and his willingness to take an intern on a ride-along. The officer's willingness to help reflects good credit upon himself and his selfless attitude and service are to be recognized.
  112. Recognition for the outstanding efforts related to a felony OMVWI and possession with intent to distribute investigation. A driver/suspect nearly struck the officer's squad, drove at a high rate of speed, and passed other vehicles. The suspect/vehicle stopped and the suspect fled on foot. The officer apprehended the suspect and found them to be impaired. The officer conducted an outstanding investigation and developed probable cause to arrest the suspect on numerous felony charges.
  113. Officers responded to a fatality crash. The officers who responded did an exceptional job managing this very chaotic scene, all while traffic was still flowing past them and the scene was being flooded by multiple on lookers/good Samaritans. The officers were able to quickly identify the involved parties, stabilize and secure the scene to prevent further crashes/loss of evidence and located multiple critical witnesses that needed to be interviewed. Other officers/investigators responded to assist with interviews, scene processing, and scene security. All officers on this call showed great communication, coordination, and teamwork.
  114. Recognition for officers, detectives, and supervisors for their commitment to developing and maintaining relationships with the newest members of the MPD as they participated in a welcome mentor event for recruits and their families. They are all to be recognized for making this event a success.
  115. Recognition for an officer who has filled in as the acting recruiting officer. The officer adjusted their workload to ensure they were able to give 100% to recruiting, all while taking on other responsibilities in the department. They are to be commended for their efforts and actions.
  116. A message was sent through our website to give recognition to an officer who pulled over the community member. The message stated they were pulled over and the officer was incredibly professional and kind. The message went on to state the officer made what could be a stressful situation very easy. The officer's professionalism and representation of the department is top notch.
  117. An officer responded to a juvenile experiencing a mental health crisis. The officer did an excellent job building rapport with the juvenile leading to the best possible resolution. The officer is to be commended for their efforts and actions.
  118. Officers responded to a report of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and quickly located the victim. Officers performed lifesaving medical aid on the victim. A description of the suspect was obtained and aired. The suspect was located quickly and taken into custody. The scene was processed, evidence was collected, statements were taken. Officers were able to very quickly stabilize the scene and had the suspect in custody within 8 minutes of being dispatched. All involved in this call did a tremendous job throughout this chaotic situation.  They are all to be commended for their efforts and actions.
  119. An email was sent to give thanks to officers who responded reference a juvenile being kicked out of their home. The email stated that the officers were great with both connecting with the legal caregiver, the youth, and local resources. Officers helped triage the situation and calmed the caregiver to where they were willing to allow their child back into the home. The time, effort, and calmness the officers brought to the situation definitely helped create a positive resolution.
  120. Recognition for an officer who created a form that is used to document all the information which peer support officers collect. With the information collected on a form, a spreadsheet is automatically created which allows for information to be captured and collected in a user friendly and efficient manner reducing the chance of an error. The officer is to be commended for his time, efforts, and initiative to create the form and improve their process.
  121. An officer took a report from a family visiting from out of town reference their minor child who was being extorted over sensitive content shared over social media. The officer worked the call, consulted with his supervisor, collected evidence. The parent of the minor complimented the officer and stated he did a great job on the call, calling his work "amazing" and "phenomenal" and that his actions were "just what we needed at that time." The officer is to be commended for his professionalism and investigation on this call.
  122. Recognition for an officer who assisted with planning the Juneteenth Celebration that took place on June 20th.  The officer joined the planning group, took a leadership role representing our department, communicated with stakeholders, and obtained the needed supplies. On the day of the event, the officer worked tirelessly for 12 hours making sure the parade was a safe and smooth event, and coordinated MPD's role in the all-day park event. In the days that followed, the officer attended a follow-up meeting of the committee and identified areas for improvement to make next year's celebration a safer and smoother function for MPD and the residents of our city. The officer is to be commended for her willingness to join a project late, her dedication to getting up to speed and making meaningful contributions to the team.
  123. An officer responded to a domestic incident. During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that a sexual assault had occurred. The victim was visibly upset and had two young children in their care. The officer displayed compassion and empathy towards the victim. The officer obtained a detailed statement from the victim. The officer did a great job of calming the victim down during this traumatic time. The officer collected evidence needed. The officer is to be commended for his hard work on this call.
