The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on July 2 to 6:00am on July 3, we received 500 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Central: 95
  • East: 118
  • Midtown: 80
  • North: 82
  • South: 52
  • West: 63
  • Other: 10

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the city. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Thursday, July 2:

  • 9:12am - West – Assist Citizen: A care worker at a senior living facility reported that an 80-year-old man was missing. Officers determined that the man was a patient at a local hospital.
  • 11:47am - West – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a hotel room where a 60-year-old man was found deceased. Nothing suspicious on scene.
  • 12:54pm - North – Missing Adult: Staff at a group home reported that a 64-year-old man did not return home after a walk. The man was listed as missing and an ATL was aired.
  • 1:37pm - Midtown – Information: Officers responded to Henry Vilas Zoo to investigate a report of a threatening phone call. Later, staff at UW Hospital received a similar threat via phone call. The calls are believed to be related to a nationwide swatting incident. An incident report was completed on the MPD website.
  • 2:01pm - East – Disturbance: The victim reported that the 23-year-old male suspect bit her during an argument. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, battery, 4th degree sexual assault, threats to LE, and multiple counts of bail jumping.
  • 2:06pm - North – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a residence where an 84-year-old man passed away. Nothing suspicious on scene.
  • 4:32pm - East – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a senior living facility where a 101-year-old woman passed away. Nothing suspicious on scene. 
  • 7:46pm - Central – Drug Investigation: Officers conducted a focused enforcement action in the 100 block of State St. Officers issued citations for trespassing and possession of open intoxicants. One suspect was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine.
  • 11:06pm - East – Domestic Disturbance: The 46-year-old female suspect struck several members of her household. The suspect was arrested for physical abuse of a child, disorderly conduct, and domestic disorderly conduct.
  • 11:10pm - Midtown – Check Person: Officers transported a woman to the hospital after she was found walking on the beltline. She was voluntarily admitted but later left the hospital without receiving care. Officers placed the woman into protective custody and Journey Mental Health supported an emergency detention.

Friday, July 3:

  • 1:35am - Midtown – Damage to Property: Several callers to dispatch reported that the 52-year-old male suspect was throwing something heavy at the front door of the apartment building. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and damage to property.
