The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.
Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.
Number of calls
From 6:00am on July 8 to 6:00am on July 9, we received 548 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.
A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

- East: 126
- Midtown: 84
- North: 80
- South: 68
- West: 65
- Other: 13
"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
Notable calls
Wednesday, July 8:
5:51am – South – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a report of a deceased subject (83-year-old male). Medical Examiner's office responded. Nothing suspicious identified.
- 5:59am – East – Adult Arrested Person: A 29-year-old male subject threatened to send a video containing sexually explicit material to the victim's parent. The subject arrived at the victim's home uninvited and demanded money from them. The subject left but returned to the home awhile later. The subject was shouting outside causing the neighbors to be fearful. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct (2 counts) and was served a stalking letter.
- 9:20am – North – Runaway Juvenile: A 17-year-old female subject was reported as a runaway. Attempt to locate aired. The juvenile was listed as missing/runaway in the appropriate databases.
- 9:42am – East – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a report of a deceased subject (73-year-old male). Decedent was on hospice. Nothing suspicious identified.
- 10:02am – North – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a report of a pulseless non-breathing subject (78-year-old male). Lifesaving measures were attempted, but they were not successful. Medical Examiner's office notified. Nothing suspicious identified.
- 10:02am – North – Death Investigation: Officers were dispatched to the men's shelter for a 45-year-old male subject acting strange and possibly under the influence. The shelter wanted the subject to leave the premises. Officers attempted to dialogue with the subject but he was not cooperative. The subject was escorted outside where he continued to be a problem. The subject was arrested for resisting and cited for trespassing.
- 3:31pm – Central – Check Person: A male subject was contacted by another law enforcement agency due to concerns for how he was acting. No law enforcement action was deemed appropriate at that time. The subject called for an ambulance stating they had a hard time breathing. While enroute to the hospital in an ambulance the subject started to act out and jumped out of the ambulance into traffic. Officers arrived and were able to convince the subject to go to a local hospital. As officers arrived at the hospital the subject became violent in the back of the squad. The subject was placed into protective custody and an emergency detention was sought/approved. The subject was transported to Winnebago for placement.
- 11:57pm – Central – Adult Arrested Person: A 27-year-old male subject was in a bar and exposed himself. A staff member told him to leave. The subject assaulted the staff member. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct, battery, lewd/lascivious behavior, and bail jumping (4 counts).
- 11:59am – South – Check Person: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject who threatened a family member. Information was gathered that the subject was not taking their prescribed medication for schizophrenia and whose behavior had become increasingly erratic and concerning. The subject was contacted, placed into protective custody, and transported to a local hospital for an evaluation. Final outcome pending.
Thursday, July 9:
- 12:53am – West – Adult Arrested Person: Officers responded to an apartment complex for a discharge of a firearm involving a 44-year-old male subject. The subject reported they were unloading/clearing the gun so he could clean it when a round was fired. The round went into a shared wall with the neighbors. Contact made with the neighbors. No injures reported. The subject was arrested for negligent discharge of a firearm and armed while intoxicated.
- 2:13am – East – Check Person: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject who was threatening to kill themselves and their children. The subject was contacted and was uncooperative with officers. The subject was placed into protective custody and transported to a local hospital for an emergency detention evaluation. Final outcome pending.
