Within four hours of this shooting, Ben B. Washington was arrested on first-degree homicide charges. 

He was taken into custody at an apartment along the 3700 block of E. Karstens Dr.

Responding patrol officers assisted detectives with searches and interviews on this case. Their work along with information shared by witnesses allowed for a suspect to be identified and located within hours of the incident. As detectives were drafting a warrant for the Karstens Drive address, the suspect called 911 and admitted to being involved in the shooting. A firearm was recovered from the apartment. 

The suspect and victim were known to one another. 

This remains an ongoing investigation.

The Madison Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred Saturday night on the city's north side.

Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Troy Dr. around 9:35 p.m. They arrived to find a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Life-saving measures were attempted, but the victim died at the scene.

No arrests have been made, and detectives are working on identifying a suspect.
