MPD investigating hazing incident at fraternity

A hazing incident at a fraternity Wednesday night remains under investigation by the Madison Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, located along the 100 block of Langdon Street around 8:20 p.m. Police received an anonymous tip about this event.

Inside the basement of the residence, officers found around 30 other partially clothed males covered in food, condiments, and other liquids.

The vast majority of those in attendance were 18-years-olds. Several of these men had visible injuries consistent with being physically assaulted. A thermostat in the room was set to 81 degrees creating hot and humid conditions.

Officers declared the event unlawful and everyone was escorted outside. All pledges were checked by officers for incapacitation and injuries.

Alpha Epsilon Pi is an unrecognized and unaccredited student organization, having been terminated by the University of Wisconsin more than a decade ago. 

The president and vice president of the fraternity were present and spoke to responding officers.

Brayden J. Klein and Samuel N. Vane, both 20, were arrested for hazing and disorderly conduct. Both were taken to the Dane County Jail.
