The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 72 hours (Friday morning to Monday morning).

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on September 25 to 6:00am on September 28 we received 1,330 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Central: 264

  • West: 202
  • Other: 36

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Friday, September 25:

  • 7:16am – Central – Check Person: Officers responded to a call that MFD had responded to (subject locked themselves in a bathroom and became combative towards MFD). A 35-year-old female subject was contacted. The subject was not making sense and was therefore placed into protective custody. The subject resisted officers. The subject was transported to a local hospital. An emergency detention was not supported. The subject was arrested for resisting and a probation violation.
  • 8:36am – Central – Sexual Assault of a Child: Officers received a report of a sexual assault (2 minors, acquainted with each other). Investigation continuing.   
  • 1:55pm – East – Adult Arrested Person: Animal Control was requested at a residence by a caller who was concerned for the wellbeing of a dog. MPD was requested after animal control suspected animal abuse. A 28-year-old male subject was arrested for mistreatment of animals (felony). The dog needed to be euthanized due to their injuries.
  • 3:44pm – North – Stalking Complaint: Officers responded to a report of a 40-year-old female subject yelling obscenities and threatening their neighbor (subject was previously issued a stalking letter and warned to refrain from contacting the neighbor).  Probable cause developed to charge/arrest the subject for stalking and misdemeanor bail jumping.
  • 10:18pm – Central – Check Person: Officers responded to a report of a subject (27-year-old male) experiencing a drug-overdose. The subject was contacted and transported to a local hospital. The subject was left with an order-in for disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property. The subject was left in the care of medical staff. Officers disengaged.

Saturday, September 26:

Priority calls only from 11:19am to 12:28pm due to calls for service.

Priority calls only from 4:02pm to 5:51pm due to calls for service. 

  • 12:34am – East – Check Person: A 58-year-old male subject called dispatch multiple times with officers responding. The subject wrapped a phone cord around their neck. The subject was transported to a local hospital for a mental health assessment. Charges developed. The subject obtained a clearance from the hospital and was booked into jail for disorderly conduct, resisting, and misdemeanor bail jumping (2 counts).
  • 2:23am – Central – Intoxicated Driver: A traffic stop was conducted. The driver (41-year-old male) was found to be impaired. The driver was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (1st offense), resisting, carrying a concealed weapon, and going armed while intoxicated. The driver was also issued traffic citations for having open intoxicants in the vehicle and driving against traffic.
  • 3:47am – East – Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance involving a 31-year-old male subject. Probable cause developed to charge/arrest the subject, who was no longer on scene.  
  • 5:17am – East – Check Person: Caller screamed incomprehensibly at dispatch. Caller refused to open the door when officers arrived. Entry made to the residence to check the welfare of the caller.  The caller was the only one home. The caller continued to yell and scream. The subject was placed into protective custody and transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. Final outcome pending.
  • 6:27am – East – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a residence for a report of a pulseless non-breathing subject (41-year-old male). Lifesaving measures were attempted but were not successful. Evidence of drug use observed. Nothing suspicious identified.
  • 12pm – East – Disturbance: A subject entered a business stating they were trying to get away from someone. The subject locked themselves in the bathroom and staff called 911. A 20-year-old male subject entered the business. The subject kicked open the bathroom door, causing damage. The subject assaulted the victim who had initially entered the business. Staff attempted to intervene. The subject fled before officers arrived. Probable cause developed to charge/arrest the subject, who remains at-large.
  • 1:44pm – South – Adult Arrested Person: A 28-year-old male subject called police requesting a preserve the peace. There was probable cause to arrest the subject from an incident in August. The subject was contacted, arrested, and transported to jail.
  • 2:42pm – East – Recovered Stolen Auto: A stolen vehicle was spotted by an officer on routine patrol. The vehicle was occupied by 4 subjects. Additional officers responded and contact was made with the vehicle/subjects. The driver (52-year-old male) was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without consent and bail jumping. A 32-year-old female subject was arrested on outstanding warrants, possession of drug paraphernalia, and bail jumping. A 39-year-old female subject was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without consent. A 27-year-old female subject was released. This subject misidentified herself to officers. Probable cause developed to charge/arrest this subject for obstructing and a DOC warrant.
  • 3pm – Midtown – Missing Adult: A 25-year-old male subject was reported as missing from their group home. Attempt to locate aired. Areas canvassed. Phone ping conducted. The subject returned home safe.
  • 6:31pm – East – Fraud: A 44-year-old female subject stole the victim's wallet and used a card to make purchases. Probable cause developed to arrest the subject, who remains at-large.
  • 7:13pm – East – Weapons Offense: A minor showed up at a local hospital to obtain medical care for a stabbing that occurred the night before. Investigation continuing.
  • 10:06pm – North – Crash: An operator of a moped reported they were struck head on. The driver was transported to a local hospital with serious, but not life threatening, injuries. Investigation continuing.

Sunday, September 27:

Priority calls only from 12:14pm to 6:06pm due to calls for service. 

  • 1:36am – North – Adult Arrested Person: A sergeant on patrol stopped out with a crash that involved 2 vehicles. The sergeant was assisting one of the passengers out of the victim vehicle when they heard a metallic clink sound on the ground. The sergeant looks to see the suspect driver (25-year-old male) bending over and picking up a gun that had just fallen out of their waistband. The driver was detained after a brief struggle occurred. The gun was found to be stolen. The driver did not have a CCW license. The driver was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, bail jumping (4 counts), and resisting.
  • 3:40am – Central – Sexual Assault: A sexual assault was reported. Investigation continuing.
  • 4:06am – Central – Adult Arrested Person: A 34-year-old male subject approached 3 male subjects in a confrontational way. The subject body bumped one of the subjects and followed them back to their residence. The subject was contacted by officers. The subject fled on foot. The subject was apprehended. The subject was arrested for simple battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting.  
  • 1:05pm – South – Juvenile Arrest: A 14-year-old male subject was walking their dog and was going to allow the dog to use the restroom on someone's patio when the resident of patio saw what was about to happen and yelled at the minor. The subject left and returned to the same area with their friend, a 16-year-old male subject who produced a firearm. The 16-yaer-old subject fled when officers arrived in the area, but he was located/apprehended. He was arrested for possession of a machine gun, carrying a concealed weapon, 2nd degree reckless endangering safety (2 counts), and resisting. The 14-year-old was arrested for disorderly conduct and 2nd degree reckless endangering safety (party to a crime). Both subjects were booked into the Juvenile Reception Center.
  • 3:32pm – East – Check Property: Property owner gave MPD consent to enter their residence to see if anyone was present (on-going concerns with trespassing). Several subjects were located in the residence. Evidence of drug use observed. Subjects were escorted out of the residence. A 44-year-old male subject was not cooperative. The subject was arrested for criminal trespassing to a dwelling.
  • 4:19pm – North – Stolen Vehicle/Firearm: A vehicle was reported stolen. The vehicle was located unoccupied with damage. A firearm that was in the vehicle was missing/stolen. Investigation continuing.
  • 6:36pm – Central – Armed Robbery: An unknown male subject entered a business, produced a knife, and demanded money. The subject fled with cash. Investigation continuing.
  • 8:56pm – North – Intoxicated Driver: An officer was on a call when a driver (36-year-old male) drove back them at a high rate of speed. Traffic stop attempted but the driver/vehicle was lost and no pursuit was attempted. The officer checked the areas when they were flagged down by a community member who stated they believed they heard a crash around the corner. The vehicle that the officer observed was located crashed with the driver inside. There were open intoxicants in the vehicle. The driver was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The subject was admitted to the hospital with their injuries. The subject was provided with an order-in citation for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (4th offense). The driver was also issued traffic citations.

Monday, September 28:

  • 1:47am – Central – Adult Arrested Person: An officer observed a subject (36-year-old male) wearing shoes that matched the description of the subject who committed an armed robbery the prior night. The subject has a history of committing armed robberies. The subject was contacted and he lied about his identity to the officer. The subject was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Drug paraphernalia and cocaine were located on the subject. Charges for armed robbery forthcoming. Investigation continuing.   
  • 2:21am – Midtown – Adult Arrested Person: Officers responded to a local hospital for a 56-year-old male subject who was discharged and refusing to leave the premises. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property (subject threw a rock at an ambulance causing damage).
