Vehicles, apartment damaged during shots fired incident

Two vehicles and an apartment building were damaged during a shooting early Monday morning.

Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex along the 900 block of Rise Lane around 12:50 a.m.

Several people told officers standing around a vehicle, when a second vehicle occupied by several individuals drove through the parking lot and multiple shots were fired from that second vehicle toward the group.

A bullet came within inches of hitting a woman sitting inside one of the vehicles that experienced damage. An apartment building was also damaged.

One person later reported suffering a graze wound.

The suspect was gone when Madison officers arrived but was later pulled over in Maple Bluff. Omar A. Fields, 18, was arrested for first-degree recklessly endangering safety. He was taken to the Dane County Jail.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
