Two Virtual Neighborhood Meetings This Week

Wednesday, April 6: You are invited to the virtual neighborhood meeting to learn more about McGrath Property Group's proposed 12-story, 200 unit, mixed-use development project for 222-232 E. Olin Avenue this Wednesday, April 6, at 6:30pm.

Thursday, April 7: You are invited to participate in the South Side Community Meeting being held this Thursday, April 7, at 6pm to discuss the impacts of the Metro Transit Network Redesign on neighborhoods in District 13 and 14.

In particular, discusssion will focus on the proposed amendments to the Draft Metro Transit Network Redesign Plan. There are three amendments suggested to date as possible alternatives to what was originally in the Draft Plan for the south side:

Staff are open to feedback and request that you fill out their short survey so they may glean as much input as possible.

MPD Hosting Focus Groups to Aid Strategic Planning

The Madison Police Department is in the process of setting a long-range strategic plan and is seeking community input as part of the process. Each one of MPD's six patrol districts will host a meeting. The meetings will cover broad themes on topics such as community trust, the role of police, community policing, crime and safety, and police staffing.

Below is a list of dates and times for each district's meeting: 

• North District: April 4, 6:30 - 8 p.m.
• East District: April 5, 6:30 - 8 p.m.
• Central District: April 7, 6:30 - 8 p.m.
• West District: April 11, 6:30 - 8 p.m.
• Midtown District: April 12 6:30 - 8 p.m. 
• South District: April 13, 6:30 - 8 p.m.

(Midtown includes several D13 neighborhoods -- Dudgeon-Monroe, Vilas, Greenbush, Triangle, Monona Bay --and the South District includes the Bay Creek neighborhood.)

Community members will need to register for the virtual meetings at this link. Participants will need to select the meeting they plan to attend during the registration process. There is also an option to attend more than one meeting.

Tomorrow is Election Day -- Don't Forget to Vote!

The City Clerk's Office encourages voters to confirm their polling place before tomorrow's April 5 Spring Election. Many polling places in the City of Madison have changed because of redistricting. (For example, Dudgeon-Monroe voters will be split into two voting locations, Wingra School and Edgewood College.) The Clerk's Office sent postcards to voters in areas impacted by polling place changes in early March. Voters can view a sample ballot and check for their address on the MyVote Wisconsin website.

Candidates for tomorrow's Spring Election have responded to questions from the League of Women Voters.  Their unedited responses are available online to Dane County voters: lwvdanecounty.org

Earth Day Volunteers Needed to Clean Up Our Local Parks

Celebrate Earth Day with your neighbors and friends by volunteering to clean up your local park on Saturday, April 23, 10am to 12pm. Join this community-wide volunteer effort to help make a difference. The Parks Division is seeking 850 volunteers at 50+ parks, located throughout the city, to assist with trash pickup, raking, weeding, and removing sticks. Parks throughout the city, locations and number of volunteers are listed under the registration link, which you can access by clicking here. All ages are welcome to participate. Advance registration is required for anyone 10 years and older. Registration closes on Friday, April 22, at 10am.

Street Division Updates

• Yard waste collection begins April 4. Learn when you should put out your yard waste for collection by clicking here. You only get two collections in the spring, so look up the dates now so you don't miss out. (Yard waste is weeds, leaves, grass clippings and similar material you have pulled or raked from your lawn or garden.)
• Brush collection begins April 4. Learn when you should put out your brush for collection by clicking here. You get five brush pickups a year. (Brush is woody material you have cut from a tree, shrub, or bush.)
• The Badger Road drop-off site is now closed. It will remain closed until at least the spring of 2023.
• The drop-off site at 402 South Point Road has replaced the Badger Road site as the west side drop-off site. This location will be the west side drop-off site for the entirety of 2022 and the first few months of 2023 while Badger Road is shuttered due to the pending construction project.
• On April 4, a special temporary drop-off site will open at 121 E. Olin Avenue for certain evenings and weekends.
• Also on April 4, the South Point Rd and 4602 Sycamore Avenue drop-off sites expand their hours.
• There's still time to join the April Master Recycler class with Sustain Dane & the City of Madison. Sign-ups are available here.

Make Music Madison - Musician Registration Opens

Make Music Madison is a free, citywide, outdoor day of music held annually on the summer solstice. Initiated in Madison in 2013, our festival is part of the larger Make Music Day, an international summer solstice music celebration occurring in 1,000+ cities across the globe. The 2021 event featured 312 concerts at 112 venues with over 1,000 individual musicians. Registration to perform or host a performance opens this month.
