2025 Dane County Task Force Annual Report
This report highlights the 2025 arrests and charges related to drug investigations.
History of the Dane County Narcotics Task Force (DCNTF)
The DCNTF was formed in 1972 when a cooperative agreement was made between the City of Madison Police Department, Dane County Sheriff's Office, and the UW Madison Police Department. These founding agencies began working together to combat gangs and the illegal distribution of drugs within Dane County. The DCNTF now partners with over a dozen local, state and federal agencies to continue this important work.
DCNTF Mission Statement
The mission of the DCNTF is to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking organizations within the Dane County area. The DCNTF also collaborates with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in an effort to combat larger drug trafficking organizations.
Current DCNTF Operations
The DCNTF continues to focus on disrupting and dismantling drug trafficking organizations and providing education to the public on the current trends and danger of drugs. The DCNTF had several new focuses in the year of 2025 as well. This included establishing DCNTF as a resource available to all of the agencies in Dane County and emphasizing working relationships with other local, state, and federal partners. In addition to increasing information-sharing, DCNTF has provided training and employee development opportunities for law enforcement agencies in Dane County that include classroom instruction, training scenarios, on-the-job training, mentoring, and investigative consultation.
The DCNTF coordinated drug takeback events in Dane County in 2025 as part of a larger national initiative to prevent unwanted prescription medications from contributing to drug abuse in the community. This initiative included staffing 9 locations for drug collection. We collaborated with WI DOJ, UW School of Pharmacy, Oak Wood Village and Safe Communities Madison-Dane County. In total, nearly 40 locations throughout Dane County participated in the drug take back in the spring and fall of 2025, and thousands of pounds of unused drugs were taken back from the community.
The DCNTF also conducted several community outreach events that allowed DCNTF personnel to connect with community members. These engagement opportunities included presenting on overdose death investigations, educating staff at area hospitals on recent drug trends, and providing informational classes to apartment management staff on how to identify and deal with drug-related issues in their properties.
Another focus of the DCNTF was violent crimes associated with narcotics trafficking. The DCNTF worked with the US Attorney's Office of the Western District of Wisconsin on Project Safe Neighborhoods, an effort that focuses enforcement efforts on offenders who contribute to violence in the community. The DCNTF, with assistance from the Madsion Police Department, Dane County Sheriff's Office, and other local agencies, has identified offenders involved in violent crime to be the focus of pro-active enforcement efforts. By focusing on offenders who are a danger to the community, the DCNTF seeks to help reduce violence in Dane County. The DCNTF was able to recover 101 weapons in 2025, the most ever recovered by DCNTF in a single year. In addition to hundreds of drug charges, the DCNTF issued 31 weapons-related charges in 2025 as well.
While enforcement is a critical component of combating illegal drugs and the correlating criminal activity, we recognize that this is only one part of the community effort that is necessary to reduce drug trafficking and drug dependency. We will continue to partner with those both inside and outside of LE as we combat this health and public safety issue.
The important work of the DCNTF is driven in large part by the drug tips and community complaints we receive from the public. Tips can be sent anonymously to Madison Area Crime Stoppers by calling 608-266-6014, or by visiting P3TIPS.com.
