The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.
Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.
Number of calls
From 6:00am on October 23 to 6:00am on October 24, we received 375 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.
A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:
- Central: 61
- East: 69
- Midtown: 79
- North: 67
- South: 38
- West: 56
- Other: 5
"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the city. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
Notable calls
Thursday, October 23:
Priority calls only from 12:50pm to 1:10pm due to calls for service.
- 5:05am - Midtown – Adult Arrested Person: Officers responded to the 1000 block of Erin St for a report of a man possibly overdosing in a vehicle. Officers determined that the 45-year-old male was merely sleeping. Officers learned that he had a warrant and took him into custody without incident.
- 7:38am - Midtown – Retail Theft: Loss prevention staff at Home Depot reported that a 41-year-old male suspect was in the store concealing merchandise. The suspect fled the store and attempted to hide from officers who responded to the area. The suspect was apprehended and arrested on several warrants. The suspect was newly charged with resisting/obstructing and retail theft.
- 9:19am - East – Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence where the 46-year-old male suspect was trespassing. The suspect was arrested and charged with trespass, false imprisonment and disorderly conduct.
- 12:46pm - North – Fight: Madison Metro staff reported that a large group of juveniles was fighting and blocking traffic at E Washington Ave and North St. Officers responded to the area. Three female juveniles were arrested for battery and disorderly conduct and conveyed to JRC.
- 1:44pm - Midtown – Person w/ Gun: A victim reported that while in the restroom in a hotel lobby, the 59-year-old male suspect brandished a handgun. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct while armed and carrying a concealed weapon.
- 1:52pm - South – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence where the 45-year-old male suspect damaged property. The suspect was arrested and charged with two counts of damage to property, one domestic related.
- 3:23pm - Central – Death Investigation: Officers located a 70-year-old male deceased in his apartment. Nothing suspicious on scene. Medical examiner responded.
- 3:28pm - Midtown – Traffic Crash: Officers responded to the beltline at Verona Rd for a single vehicle crash. The elderly male driver appeared to have had a seizure. The driver was transported to a hospital.
- 9:39pm - South – Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence where the 28-year-old female suspect was intoxicated and yelling threats at the victim. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
- 11:45pm - Central – Check Property: Two callers to dispatch reported hearing shots fired in the downtown area. Officers checked the area and did not locate any fired shell casings, damage to property or injured persons.
Friday, October 24:
- 1:52am - West – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence where during an argument, the 28-year-old male suspect kicked a door. Officers developed probable cause to arrest the suspect for domestic damage to property and disorderly conduct. Suspect is at large.
