The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.
Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.
Number of calls
From 6:00am on December 9 to 6:00am on December 10, we received 381 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.
A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:
- Central: 70
- East: 88
- Midtown: 49
- North: 60
- South: 54
- West: 48
- Other: 12
"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the city. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
Notable calls
Tuesday, December 9:
Priority calls only from 5:00pm to 2:45am due to calls for service.
- 8:22am - North – Road Rage: A driver reported he was waiting to make a left turn at a light when a driver behind him began honking. The suspect then pulled up on his right side, flipped him off and showed him a handgun before driving away. Suspect vehicle was not located. Investigation continuing.
- 8:25am - Midtown – Trespass: A property manager reported that the 49-year-old male suspect was sleeping in a common area of the apartment building. The suspect was cited for trespass and conveyed to jail.
- 11:04am - South – Child Abuse: Officers investigated a report of possible child abuse. CPS contacted.
- 12:24pm - Citywide – Threats Complaint: MMSD security staff relayed information to MPD about a call they received from a reportedly suicidal subject. Officers provided extra patrol at area schools.
- 12:47pm - Central – Road Rage: A victim reported that while she was driving, another vehicle cut her off and then followed her, driving aggressively. The victim reported the other driver then showed her a handgun but did not point it directly at her. The 20-year-old male suspect was located with a facsimile firearm in his vehicle. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct while armed.
- 1:14pm - Midtown – Stolen Auto: Staff at U-Haul reported a vehicle stolen. Officers attempted to contact the 27-year-old female renter/suspect and locate the vehicle but were unsuccessful. The vehicle was listed as stolen and an ATL was aired.
- 4:54pm - West – Check Person: Officers made contact with a man who was reportedly suicidal. Officers placed the man into protective custody and transported him to a hospital.
- 5:15pm - East – Mental Health Conveyance: Journey Mental Health requested that officers assist with a Chapter 51 return. Officers placed the woman into protective custody and transported her to a hospital.
- 6:11pm - East – Weapons Offense: Officers responded to a parking lot and made contact with a victim who had a graze wound from a gunshot. Officers located a fired shell casing in the victim's vehicle. Incident report completed on MPD website. Investigation continuing.
- 6:31pm - South – Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence where the 28-year-old male suspect pushed the victim up against a car while holding a knife above his head. The suspect was arrested and charged with 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety.
- 10:00pm - North – Adult Arrested Person: DOC requested that officers take into custody a 21-year-old male suspect who violated his P&P rules. Officers arrested the suspect and conveyed him to the jail without incident.
Wednesday, December 10:
- 12:09am - West – Threats Complaint: Officers made contact with a 17-year-old male suspect who posted a threat on Snapchat. Officers determined the threat was related to an ongoing issue with another student. School staff was made aware.
- 12:09am - Central – Disturbance: The victim reported that the 28-year-old male suspect repeatedly made inappropriate comments to her while she was working at a downtown bar. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
- 1:57am - South – Assist EMS/Fire: Officers responded with MFD to a residence for a fire. The source of the fire was not determined to be suspicious. The occupants of the home left the house safely and were uninjured.
