The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on January 20 to 6:00am on January 21, we received 434 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Central: 57
  • East: 107
  • Midtown: 68  
  • North: 89
  • South: 56
  • West: 52
  • Other: 6

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Tuesday, January 20:

  • 10:18am - Central – Check Person: Officers received a request to check on the welfare of a subject yelling outside with no coat. The subject was contacted and transported to a local hospital. Final outcome pending.  *Dane County Sheriff’s Office responded and took over on this call as the subject is on a Dane County Jail diversion program. MPD officers disengaged.
  • 12:26pm - East – Adult Arrested Person: Officers located a wanted subject (28-year-old male) and took him into custody. The subject went from a third floor balcony to a second floor balcony but was not able to enter the unit. The subject was detained by MPD K9 perimeter units until officers were able to gain access to the second floor apartment unit to take the subject into custody. A handgun and drug evidence was recovered. The subject was arrested on the outstanding probation/parole warrant, probable cause from a domestic incident in December, and resisting. Weapon/drug related charges forthcoming.
  • 1pm - Midtown – Check Area: Call initially indicated that a female subject was saying someone was trying to stab them. The caller kept hanging up on dispatch. Officers arrived in the area (6800 block of Odana Rd). Investigation found that there was a planned fight between two groups of girls. A knife was reportedly displayed to try to stop the fight. Two subjects received citations for disorderly conduct. Additional follow-up necessary.
  • 3:46pm - North – Death Investigation: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a 61-year-old male subject. The subject was located deceased. The decedent had a history of health/medical concerns plus alcohol use. Marijuana/drug paraphernalia was observed in plain view. Autopsy pending. Nothing suspicious identified.
  • 5:25pm - North – Recovered Stolen Auto: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a 37-year-old female subject. The subject was in possession of a stolen vehicle. The subject was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without consent. Vehicle towed.
  • 5:36pm - South – Mental Health Conveyance: Officers responded to a care home after a resident attacked several staff members. The subject was transported to a local hospital for an emergency detention. Transport to Winnebago pending.
  • 7:50pm - East – Juvenile Arrest: Officers were at Shorewood Behavior Health on an unrelated call when they were alerted to a situation where juveniles were physically assaulting staff and actively destroying the facility. Officers encountered approximately 18 juveniles who were causing this disturbance. The majority of the juveniles cooperated with officers, but 3 juveniles continued their attacks on staff and equipment. The juveniles were arrested and booked into the Juvenile Reception Center for battery (12-year-old female, 13-year-old female, 13-year-old female). Additional charges may be forthcoming.

Wednesday, January 21:

  • 12:22am - South – Mental Health Conveyance: Officers responded to a local hospital for a subject in need of an emergency detention. The subject was transported to Winnebago.
  • 1:20am - Central – Adult Arrested Person: Officers responded to a report of a 27-year-old female subject out of control and intoxicated. Officers attempted to detain the subject to conduct a detox evaluation but she walked away and then actively resisted officers. The subject was arrested for resisting.
