The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 72 hours (Friday morning to Monday morning).
Various systems were not working over the weekend and therefore calls for service and priority calls for service data is not available.
Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.
Notable calls
Friday, January 23:
- 7:47am – South – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a residence for a deceased subject (58-year-old female subject). The subject was located outside by the front door by her husband. The subject was last seen the night before. Medical Examiner’s office responded. Nothing suspicious identified.
- 7:55am – South – Check Person: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a 61-year-old female subject suffering from psychosis who was outside and refused to come inside. The subject was not properly dressed for the weather. Officers made contact with the subject and got her to agree to go inside. The subject was then taken into protective custody and transported to a local hospital. An emergency detention was sought/approved. The subject was left in the care of medical staff and officers disengaged.
- 8:19am – South – Check Person: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject (21-year-old female). Officers made contact with the subject. The subject was taken into protective custody and transported to a local hospital where a mental health/emergency detention evaluation was conducted. The subject attempted to bite an officer and she kicked a security guard in the head. Emergency detention not supported. The subject was arrested and conveyed to jail for battery to an emergency medical worker.
- 9:13am – East – Death Investigation: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject (34-year-old male). Contact attempted at the residence. Entry made to the residence to check on the subject. The subject was located deceased. Medical Examiner’s office responded. Decedent had a history of health/medical concerns and alcohol abuse. Nothing suspicious identified.
- 1:48pm – East – Disturbance: Officers responded to the McDonalds in the 2700 block of E. Washington Ave for a subject (27-yar-old female) who refused to leave the premises when asked to by staff. The subject was being disruptive at the restaurant. The subject was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, threats to law enforcement, and misdemeanor bail jumping. She was cited for trespassing.
- 6:52pm – West – Theft: Officers responded to Target for a retail theft in progress involving a 26-year-old female subject. The subject was arrested for retail theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting, and 2 warrants.
- 6:57pm – East – Disturbance: Officers responded to Ho Chunk for a 42-year-old male subject causing a disturbance and refusing to leave the premises. The subject was described as being belligerent and unable to secure a ride-share due to his level of intoxication. Officers attempted to help the subject, but he was not cooperative with them. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting.
- 9:18pm – East – Adult Arrested Person: Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance involving a 27-year-old male subject. The subject was not allowed to have contact with the victim (restraining order in place). The subject went to the victim’s home and an argument took place. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct and violating the restraining order.
- 10:36pm – Central – Disturbance: Officers responded to the Salvation Army for a report of a disturbance involving a 29-year-old female subject. The subject attempted to fight with staff and spit in the face of staff. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Saturday, January 24:
- 3:19am – North – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance between neighbors (44-year-old male and 45-year-old male). The 45-year-old walked over to his neighbor’s home after there was a text exchange between his wife and the neighbor. He entered the neighbor’s unlocked home and struck the subject over the head with a bottle as he slept. The subject returned home. The 44-year-old texted the wife over 100 times, including some vague threats. He is able to be contacted by officers who arrest him on a probation/parole hold. The 45-year-old is unable to be contacted by officers at this time. Charge pending for that subject.
- 6:34am – South – Juvenile Assistance: A 16-year-old male subject showed up at the caller’s residence. The juvenile was referred to the caller’s residence by a shared acquaintance. The juvenile was a runaway and wanted help. The caller (foster parent) drove the juvenile to Briarpatch but there was no answer. The caller brought the juvenile to the South District for assistance. Officers took the juvenile to Briarpatch and turned him over to their staff. At the time of contact with the juvenile, he had not been called in by anyone as missing/runaway.
- 7:45am – East – Domestic Disturbance: Caller reported a disturbance took place the previous night between himself and his son (29-year-old male). The son made threatening statements to his dad. Probable cause developed to charge the subject, who remains at-large. Attempts were made to make contact with the subject without success.
- 8:54am – West – Adult Arrested Person: A 19-year-old male subject was in a business (Watts Rd). Two employees reported inappropriate contact by the male subject (touching them, pressing body up against them). The subject also exposed himself to an employee. The subject was arrested for lewd/lascivious behavior, disorderly conduct, and 4th degree sexual assault.
- 7:55pm – East – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a domestic disturbance involving a 70-year-old male subject. The victim reported being choked and threatened with a gun if they were to call for help. Officers safely able to get the victim out of the home. Officers attempted to dialogue with the male subject for over an hour. Subject eventually came to the door and cooperated with officers’ commands. BB guns were located in the home. The subject was arrested for felony intimidation of a victim, domestic battery, domestic disorderly conduct, and felony bail jumping (2 counts).
- 10:05pm – East – Disturbance: Officers responded to disturbance involving a 41-year-old female subject who punched a victim in the face and left the residence. Probable cause developed to charge the subject, who remains at-large.
Sunday, January 25:
- 1:22am – North – Check Person: Officers responded to a caller (juvenile) who reported being suicidal. Contact made with the juvenile and their parents. Local mental health provider consulted. Safety plan put into place and officers disengaged.
- 1:46am – Central – Disturbance: Officers responded to a business on W. Gorham St. for a disturbance. A 22-year-old female subject was in the process of hitting staff. The subject kicked an officer. The subject’s friend, 22-year-old female, ran at officers to intervene. The subject was told numerous times to stay back and she refused to listen. The first subject was arrested/charged with disorderly conduct (2 counts), battery, battery to law enforcement, and resisting. The friend was arrested/charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing, and resisting.
- 2:17am – Central – Substantial Battery: The victim was with friends on State St when words were exchanged with a male subject. The subject punched the victim in the face several times. The victim was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken jaw. Investigation continuing.
- 2:18am – East – Stolen Auto: A vehicle was reported stolen (suspects identified but not located at this time). Vehicle entered as missing in the appropriate databases. The victim also reported other crimes to officers involving the same suspects. Investigation continuing.
- 3:04am – South – Homicide: Officers responded to the 400 block of Primrose Lane for reports of shots fired and a subject down. A subject was located with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Lifesaving measures were attempted, but were not successful. Incident Report on MPD’s website completed. Investigation continuing.
- 5:16am – North – Check Person: Officers observed a subject standing in the roadway not dressed appropriately for the weather. The subject was contacted and ultimately taken into protective custody. The subject was transported to a local hospital. Local mental health resources plugged in. Final outcome pending.
- 7:53am – South – Hit-and-Run: Officers responded to a hit-and-run crash (Beltline/W. Broadway). The suspect driver/vehicle struck a vehicle which sent that vehicle into a third vehicle. The suspect driver/vehicle did not remain on scene. No injuries reported.
- 10:15am – North – Check Person: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject (42-year-old male). Contact made with the subject. Drugs were observed in plain view. The subject was arrested for possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
- 4pm – East – Disturbance: A 41-year-old male subject has bail conditions to not have contact with a subject/victim. Officers were called to the residence for a disturbance. When the victim exited the residence, the subject locked the door. Verbal commands were given to the subject to exit, but he refused. The subject was alerted to a K9 being sent into the home if he did not exit. The subject refused to talk or cooperate. K9 located the subject hiding in the basement. The subject was arrested for resisting and felony bail jumping (2 counts).
- 5:18pm – West – Disturbance: A 56-year-old female subject refused to leave Culver’s on Mineral Point Road when staff asked her to leave multiple times. The subject was transported to jail to post on a trespassing citation.
- 11:42pm – North – Disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance where the caller reported an 18-year-old male subject tried to shoot them. The subject fled on foot when officers arrived. Call comes in that the subject was at the fire station down the road. The subject was contacted and he lied about his identity. The subject was arrested for 1st degree reckless endangering safety, carrying a concealed weapon, and obstruction.
Monday, January 26:
- 12:12am – East – Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance. Two subjects contacted. A 32-year-old male subject went after the victim with a gun, was flashing the laser at the victim, and threatening the victim. The subject fled the residence prior to officers arriving. Probable cause developed to arrest the subject for domestic disorderly conduct while armed, felon in possession of a firearm, and an outstanding warrant.
- 1:22am – East – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance involving a 57-year-old male subject who got into a disturbance with his wife and son. The subject armed himself with a gun during the argument and threatened both victims. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct while armed (2 counts).
