The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 72 hours (Friday morning to Monday morning).
Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working on the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.
Number of calls
From 6:00am on August 14 to 6:00am on August 17, we received 1,181 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.
A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
Notable calls
Friday, August 14:
- 1:55 am – North – Accident Property Damage: Officers responded to a vehicle versus tree call near International and American Lanes. A male driver who attempting to head to the airport was taken into custody on operating while intoxicated charges.
- 7:18 am – North – Disturbance: Officers responded to a business in the 1800 block of Wright Street regarding a former employee breaking car windows with a tire iron. When officers arrived, the suspect was still armed. Business employees were taken to a safe location, while repeated efforts were made to get the suspect to drop the weapon, but he remained uncooperative. The suspect also used the tire iron to harm himself. A less-lethal round was utilized but ineffective. The man continued to injure himself and asked officers to shoot him. An officer utilized a taser which was effective. The man was taken into custody and then to the hospital where mental health professionals were consulted.
- 10:36 am - Midtown – Check Person: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject at a local hospital. Local mental health resources plugged in. Final outcome pending.
- 12:07 pm- East – Fraud: An employee from a business in the 5400 block of High Crossing Boulevard contacted Madison police because they believed they had a suspect who would be on scene who was part of the forgery scam reported by car dealerships in Dane County. The custom, who arrived as scheduled, attempted to pass a fraudulent check. Officers took the suspect into custody without incident.
- 12:49 pm - South – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a domestic disturbance involving a couple. A subject was arrested and taken to jail, while facing charges of domestic disorderly conduct and domestic damage to property.
- 6:08 pm - East – Suspicious Vehicle: Officers responded to a residence in the 1300 block of Ellenwood Drive after the caller reported that a suspicious vehicle was parked outside the home with a woman inside who appeared to be in distress. When police arrived, the woman was unresponsive to police commands to step out of the vehicle. The woman, who displayed signs of impairment and had open intoxicants in the car, was eventually removed from the vehicle. She refused to take the standardized field sobriety tests. She was arrested for operating while intoxicated 4th and resisting.
Saturday, August 15:
- 1:24 am - Central – Disturbance: A fast-food restaurant in the 500 block of State Street called police after a group of juveniles rushed into the business and went directly to the bathroom. Workers reported that the group began fighting in the bathroom. The suspects ran when police arrived.
- 2:30 am - Central – Weapons Offense: An area hospital contacted police after a patient arrived with a stab wound under his armpit. The injured man was uncooperative with police when they arrived. The incident remains under investigation.
- 3:54 am - North – Stolen Auto: Police were called to a park and ride location after a vehicle owner returned to retrieve his minivan and it was gone. The case remains under investigation.
- 12:00 pm - Central – Burglary Residential: Police were called to an apartment building in the 600 block of State Street after new tenants moving in found an intruder inside a closet eating breakfast cereal. When the people moving in spotted the man, he casually left the building. The occupants reported having clothing, sneakers and cash as being stolen. The intruder remains at large.
- 4:11 pm - South – Assist EMS/Fire: Officers responded, along with MFD, to a call from a southside park event involving a man having seizures and bleeding from his mouth. The victim, who'd been playing basketball prior, then stopped breathing. An officer on scene and a nurse in attendance at the event began CPR while awaiting EMS arrival. The man was transported to the hospital where he was treated and in recovery.
- 4:45 pm - Midtown – Trespass: Officers responded to a call from a Midvale Boulevard business after an irate customer began damaging electronic items in the store when she was refused a refund. Officers attempted to take her into custody, but she resisted. The suspect was ultimately apprehended and booked into the Dane County Jail for trespassing and resisting.
- 6:19 pm - Central – Weapons Offense: Officers were dispatched to bus rapid transit stop in the 500 block of East Washinton Avenue after a homeless shelter employee reported being threatened by a woman chasing her with a knife. The suspect was yelling about her medication, and the shelter employee tried to intervene. When police arrived, the suspect fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance away. She was arrested and taken to the Dane County Jail for disorderly conduct while armed charges.
- 10 pm - Central –Robbery Armed: An individual called police to report being attacked by a woman and two males as she stood near a body of water in the 600 block of Williamson Street. Her purse was stolen and a firearm was pointed at her before the attacker ran off. The incident remains under investigation.
Sunday, August 16:
- 4:21 am -East- Weapons Offense: Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Vernon Avenue following reports of hearing gun shots. One witness reported seeing a crowd of people dispersing after the gun shots. Police arrived at the scene and found several casings. No property damage or signs of injury were found.
- 6:05 am -North- Alarm: Officers responded to an activated alarm to a liquor store on East Washington Avenue. Surveillance cameras show the suspect placing multiple alcohol bottles and cigarettes into her bag and then leaving the store. The suspect was located and arrested. Drugs were also located in her pocket. The suspect faces charges including burglary, possession of meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
- 8:29 am -South- Fraud: Officers were dispatched to a business on South Park Street regarding a female who tried to pay for her purchases by using a counterfeit bill. The business kept the bill until police arrived. The suspect left on foot and remains at large.
- 10:22 am - Midtown – Check person: Officers responded to a call from an apartment in the 4900 block of Ascot Lane for reports of a woman having an episode. The subject was taken into protective custody and then transported to a hospital. Local mental health resources plugged in.
- 3:48 pm - Central – OMVWI Arrest/Intoxicated Driver: Officers responded to the intersection of East Johnson and First Streets regarding a cyclist colliding with a vehicle, causing the cyclist to flip onto the vehicle smashing the windshield. The cyclist suffered a broken finger and back abrasions. The motorist never stopped. A witness followed the motorist to a home. Police located the suspect who was sleeping on a couch outside of the location. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated first offense, causing injury, possession of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and hit and run.
- 5:47 pm - North – Stolen Auto: While investigating a separate call on Kedzie Street, Madison Police are alerted to a stolen auto parked outside. Residents are informed that parking enforcement is going to be towing cars. As people begin to come out, officers make contact the suspect of the stolen vehicle. She is in possession of the keys and drugs. The suspect was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent and possession of meth.
Monday, August 17:
- 2:20 am - East– Accident Property Damage: Two women were arrested after the vehicle they were riding in crashed into a light pole near East Washington Avenue and Sixth Street. Witnesses told police that after the crash, the passenger was spotted running behind a business to discard something before returning to the scene. Officers later locate a canister a suspected inhalant behind the business. The passenger is arrested for ingestion of hazardous materials, obstruction, and bail jumping. The driver is arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, second offense.
