The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on August 18 to 6:00am on August 19, we received 445 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Central: 87
  • East: 121
  • Midtown: 55
  • North: 77
  • South: 34
  • West: 65
  • Other: 6

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the city. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Tuesday, August 18:

Priority calls only from 9:06am to 12:30pm and from 7:10pm to 8:45pm due to calls for service.

  • 5:35am - North – Check Person: Officers responded to a residence to check the welfare of a woman living there. The officer discovered the most deplorable living conditions she had ever seen. The woman was transported to a hospital. Officers contacted Journey Mental Health, Adult Protective Services, and Animal Control. (This was a late call that did not make the previous 24-hour cycle.)
  • 8:05am - West – Domestic Disturbance: The victim reported that the 29-year-old male suspect suffocated her and kicked her during an argument. The suspect was arrested and transported to a hospital due to severe mental illness. Officers developed probable cause to charge the suspect with domestic disorderly conduct, strangulation and battery.
  • 8:55am - East – Missing Person: Officers searched for a woman who had reportedly arrived in Madison after leaving a hospital against medical advice with a potentially life-threatening illness. The woman was located and transported to a hospital. Journey Mental Health was consulted and assisted on the call.
  • 9:07am - Midtown – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a residence where a 64-year-old man apparently suffered a heart attack and passed away. Nothing suspicious on scene.
  • 12:57pm - Central – Exposure: Officers responded to Reynolds Park where the 46-year-old male suspect had exposed himself to passersby. The suspect was arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious behavior, threats to LE, disorderly conduct, and obstructing.
  • 4:51pm - Central – Trespass: An officer discovered the 55-year-old male suspect trespassing in a church parking lot. The suspect was arrested and charged with trespass, possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple counts of bail jumping.
  • 6:22pm - North – Check Person: Officers responded to an intersection where a woman was naked and moving in and out of traffic. The woman was placed into protective custody and transported to a hospital. Officers consulted with Journey Mental Health to begin an emergency detention.
  • 9:08pm - Central – Adult Arrested Person: An officer on routine patrol in the State St area observed the 27-year-old male suspect who was banned from the area. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with bail jumping.

Wednesday, August 19:

Priority calls only from 12:33am to 1:44am due to calls for service.

  • 12:31am - East – Domestic Disturbance: A caller to dispatch reported that a man had forced a woman into a car at gunpoint. Officers located the 21-year-old male suspect and victim and developed probable cause to arrest the suspect for domestic disorderly conduct. The suspect was conveyed to jail.
