The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on August 26 to 6:00am on August 27, we received 414 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Central: 85
  • East: 81
  • Midtown: 60  
  • North: 63
  • South: 58
  • West: 59
  • Other: 8

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Wednesday, August 26:

Priority calls only from 7:46am to 12:08pm due to calls for service.

Priority calls only from 10:27pm to 11:19pm due to calls for service. 

  • 5:17am – East – Check Person: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject.  Subject contacted and placed into protective custody. The subject was transported to a local hospital for an emergency detention evaluation. Emergency detention supported. Transport to Winnebago completed.  
  • 7:39am – Central – Trespass: Officers were called to the 500 block of University Ave earlier in the morning for a trespassing complaint. The subject left prior to officers arriving. A second call was made to dispatch that the same subject had returned to the building and would not leave. Building cleared – subject not located. Subject identified as a 28-year-old male subject. The subject was located on State Street and detained. The subject was arrested for criminal damage to property. Additional charges forthcoming.
  • 12:11pm – West – Death Investigation: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject (58-year-old male) who could not be contacted. Entry made to the residence to check on the subject. The subject was located deceased. Medical Examiner's office responded. Nothing suspicious identified.
  • 3:31pm – East – Death Investigation:  Officers responded to a report of a pulseless non-breathing subject (84-year-old male). Lifesaving measures attempted, but they were not successful. Nothing suspicious identified.
  • 8:43pm – North – Mental Health Conveyance: A subject was placed into protective custody after threatening their care staff. The subject was transported to a local hospital for an emergency detention evaluation. Final outcome pending.
  • 11:47pm – East – Trespass: A 43-year-old male subject utilized a master key to enter hotel rooms where he was not staying at/paid for. Officers arrived on scene and the subject attempted to run away. The subject was apprehended and arrested for theft of services, disorderly conduct, resisting, felony bail jumping, and misdemeanor bail jumping. The subject was also cited for trespassing.

Thursday, August 27:

Priority calls only from 1:37am to 5:35am due to calls for service. 

  • 1:21am – Central – Check Person:  Officers received a request to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject. The subject was contacted, placed into protective custody, and transported to a local hospital for an emergency detention evaluation. Final outcome pending.
