The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 72 hours (Friday morning to Monday morning).
Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working on the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

From 6:00am on December 12 to 6:00am on December 15, we received 1066 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.
A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
Notable calls
Friday, Dec. 12
- 3:09 pm - North – OMVWI Arrest/Intoxicated Driver:A 64-year-old subject was spotted driving in and out of lanes near Troy and Toban drives. The subject who was stopped by police denied drinking. The driver failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. She faces charges of first offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Saturday, Dec. 13:
- 12:46 am -East - OMVWI Arrest/Intoxicated Driver: Policeobserved a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. While attempting to pull the driver over, the 28-year-old subject made an illegal U-turn and was slow to stop. Once it stopped, the vehicle started up again and the driver moved forward. A high-risk stop was conducted. The driver, and his 27-year-old passenger, refused to cooperate with police orders. Eventually, the male driver was arrested and faces charges of resisting and first offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The passenger, who attempted to block police from arresting the driver, was also arrested for obstructing.
- 6:41 am - East– Battery: Officers responded to a report of one subject being punched in the face in the 2000 block of Zeier Road. The wanted male subject, 28, fled before police arrived on the scene. Police located the subject and learned he may be experiencing a mental health episode. Journey Mental Health assisted police with an emergency detention. Officers placed a man into protective custody and transported him to a hospital.
- 10:04 am - East – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a report of a pulseless non-breathing subject (79-year-old male). Medical Examiner’s office responded. Nothing suspicious identified.
- 10:40 am - West – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 46-year-old male subject who was reportedly going ballistic in the 2200 block of Muir Field Road. The subject threatened to kill others in the home before fleeing in a vehicle. He remains at large, and the incident is ongoing.
- 11:11 am - East – Weapons Offense: Officers received multiple reports of hearing gunshots around Lafollette Ave and Ohio Ave. At least one caller reported seeing a masked male subject running with a gun in his hand. None of the witnesses saw the shots being fired. Ten fired 9MM cartridge casings were found down the street from an unoccupied vehicle that was hit twice by gunfire. Investigation is ongoing.
- 1:48 pm - West – Central– Strong Armed Robbery: Officers responded to a strong-armed robbery involving a 22-year-old female subject in the 400 block of West Gorham Street. The victim was waiting for an elevator when a male subject begins punching her. While under attack, the victim drops wallet and key fob. The male subject grabbed her items and ran from the scene. The 27-year-old attacker returned to the scene and was arrested.
- 2:26 pm - South – Missing Adult: A 28-year-old male subject was reported as missing from his home. No immediate safety concerns noted. The subject was listed as missing in the appropriate databases.
- 11:28 pm - South – Accident w/ Injuries: Madison Police assisted the Fitchburg Police Department with an accident near Gilson and Lakeside Street after a vehicle the neighboring department was searching for struck another vehicle and then struck a power pole, snapping the power pole in half and causing downed lines. The driver fled on foot. Madison Police used department resources to assist in the search, but the wanted subject was not found. The driver of the victim’s vehicle was transported as a precaution with minor injuries. The downed power line caused a power outage in the Bay Creek neighborhood affecting an estimated 470 people and contingency plan for a warming shelter for residents that might be affected by the loss of heat were activated. Madison Marriott South was designated as a warming shelter.
Sunday, Dec. 14:
- 12:03 am - Midtown – Weapons Offense Shots Fired: Officers responded to shots fired calls in the 2200 block of Whenona Drive. One witnessed reported seeing two male subjects running from the area towards Jenewein Road. Officers locate a dozen .45-caliber casings. No injuries or damage reported.
- 12:06 am - Central – Robbery Armed: Officers respond to an armed robbery in the 1700 block of Fordem Avenue. A person sitting in her car said a subject donned in all black, including a black facemask, knocked on the passenger side window and pointed a handgun towards her. The subject ordered the victim to give him her money. She handed the robber her purse before he took off running. The incident is ongoing.
- 6:21 am - North– Accident w/Injuries: Officers and Madison Fire Department responded to motor vehicle versus pedestrian near East Washington Avenue at Independence Lane. The pedestrian was found face down and unconscious. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with significant injuries. The driver, who was on his way to work, said the pedestrian appeared suddenly in traffic and was unable to avoid him. The driver remained on scene. The pedestrian died hours later from the injuries.
- 12:35 pm – Central – Sexual Assault: Officers were called to a local hospital in response to a report a sexual assault at home along North Brook St. The investigation is ongoing.
- 1:09 pm - East– Sexual Assault: Officers respond to a report of a sexual assault in the 2100 block of East Springs Drive. The investigation is ongoing.
- 7:18 pm - East– Stolen Auto: Officers responded to the 3500 block of East Washington Avenue. The vehicle was spotted in eastern Dane County, and pursuit was initiated by the Dane County Sheriff’s Department. At the county line, DSCO terminated and WI State Patrol picked up the pursuit until completion. The vehicle was spiked three different times (all four tires punctured) and the suspect continued to elude at speeds as high as 120 MPH until finally crashing near Waukesha. The suspect was apprehended after a high-risk stop and was found and was taken to the Jefferson County Jail by State Patrol and charged with Flee/Eluding and Felony Bail Jumping.
Monday, Dec. 15:
- 1:45 am - East– Theft: Officers respond to a report of a stolen credit card in the100 block of W. Main Street. Officers located the subject, who tried to flee police. After a short foot pursuit, officers apprehended the subject following a struggle. He faces charges of resisting, felony bail jumping, among others.
- 2:02 am - Central– Fraud: Officers are dispatched to a hotel on North Webster Street regarding a theft but later discovered to be fraud. The subject used valet service to park her vehicle and dine at the hotel bar. The establishment’s staff recognized that the subject was not going to pay for her parking her bills, police were contacted and the subject fled. Police found her and arrested her for fraud.
