The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on June 30 to 6:00am on July 1, we received 490 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Central: 87
  • East: 85
  • Midtown: 95
  • North: 85
  • South: 60
  • West: 64
  • Other: 14

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the city. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Tuesday, June 30:

Priority calls only from 5:09pm to 5:26pm and from 7:06pm to 8:08pm due to calls for service.

  • 8:20am - North – Runaway Juvenile: A 16-year-old juvenile was reported missing. The juvenile was listed as missing and an ATL was aired.
  • 9:48am - North – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a residence where a 78-year-old man was found deceased. Nothing suspicious on scene.
  • 11:12am - East – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence where the 43-year-old male suspect battered the victim during an argument. Officers established probable cause to arrest the suspect for domestic disorderly conduct and domestic battery. Suspect is at large.
  • 1:50pm - South – Information: Officers responded to a laundromat where witnesses reported two or three unidentified men were apprehended more than an hour before the call was made to police. Officers reviewed video which confirmed that ICE agents had apprehended a man and left the property. Madison police were not requested to respond or informed of the apprehension. District command staff and an assistant chief were notified.
  • 1:50pm - North – Disturbance: Officers responded to a business where the 20-year-old male suspect was present despite having bail conditions prohibiting him from being on the premises. The suspect pushed and scratched one of the victims. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, battery and bail jumping.
  • 2:47pm - Midtown – Information: A Dane County deputy informed Madison police that a vehicle was left abandoned on the beltline near Verona Rd. The vehicle was towed to Schmidt's.
  • 4:12pm - West – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a residence where a 42-year-old woman was found deceased. Nothing suspicious on scene.
  • 4:13pm - Central – Domestic Disturbance:  Officers responded to a residence where the 20-year-old female suspect threw things around the apartment and struck the victim. The suspect was arrested and charged with domestic battery and disorderly conduct.
  • 4:57pm - East – Disturbance: Officers responded to JCPenney where loss prevention staff reported that the suspect had assaulted an employee. Officers attempted to make contact with a man in the area matching the suspect description. The man fled but was eventually taken into custody and determined not to be the suspect from the JCPenney incident. This 41-year-old male was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and bail jumping. Officers later located the 55-year-old male suspect from JCPenney, who was arrested for retail theft, disorderly conduct and battery.
  • 10:00pm - Central – Disturbance: Officers responded to the 500 block of State St where the 31-year-old male suspect was staring at employees in several businesses and shoved a customer. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, obstruction and bail jumping.
  • 10:30pm - Midtown – Armed Robbery: A victim reported as he walked out of his apartment building, three unidentified suspects confronted him and demanded his belongings. The victim reported that one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. The suspects took the victim's shirt before the victim fled. Officers checked the area but did not locate the suspects. Investigation continuing.

Wednesday, July 1:

  • 2:03am - Central – Battery: Two victims reported that two 25-year-old male suspects punched them in the face while in Taco Bell. Officers located the suspects nearby and took them into custody after a brief foot pursuit. Both suspects were arrested for disorderly conduct, battery and resisting.
