The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on March 19 to 6:00am on March 20, we received 506 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Central: 96
  • East: 95
  • Midtown: 89
  • North: 81
  • South: 63
  • West: 71
  • Other: 11

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the city. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Thursday, March 19:

  • 11:24am - East – Weapons Offense Person w/ Gun:  Officers responded to a store where a witness saw the unidentified male suspect leave the store with unpaid merchandise.  The witness followed the suspect to the parking lot where the suspect pointed a handgun at him before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Officers developed probable cause to arrest the suspect, once identified, for disorderly conduct while armed and 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety. Suspect is at large.
  • 11:43am - North – Disturbance: Officers responded to a parking lot where two men were arguing. One of the men claimed the other grabbed him by the neck. Officers determined that the other man had simply touched the lanyard the man was wearing in order to look at his ID badge. No charges were substantiated.
  • 2:55pm - Midtown – Disturbance Unwanted Person:  Officers responded to Meriter Hospital where security staff requested police assistance with removing the 35-year-old female suspect who refused to leave. The suspect was arrested and charged with trespassing.
  • 3:39pm - East – Assist Police: Officers responded to a residence to assist Building Inspection with a Writ of Assistance at a property that was deemed uninhabitable. Officers used drones to determine that no one was present on the premises.
  • 3:49pm - Midtown – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a residence where a 77-year-old female passed away. Nothing suspicious on scene.
  • 4:56pm - West – Drug Overdose: Officers responded for a report of a person who was pulseless and not breathing. Officers located multiple firearms and a large amount of ammunition at what appeared to be the scene of a party. The male that overdosed was transported to the hospital. A 19-year-old male suspect was arrested on a probation hold. Investigation continuing.
  • 7:27pm - Central – Disturbance: Officers responded to the 700 block of E Gorham St where the 25-year-old male suspect punched the victim. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and battery.
  • 10:00pm - Central – Disturbance: Officers responded to the 500 block of State St where the 16-year-old male suspect was attempting to fight someone. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, carrying a concealed weapon, and adjudicated delinquent in possession of a firearm.
  • 10:21pm - North – Disturbance: Officers responded to UW Health East Madison Hospital where a heavily intoxicated patient was causing a disturbance. The patient was transported to a different hospital to be evaluated for a possible emergency detention due to mental health concerns.
