The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 72 hours (Friday morning to Monday morning).

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on March 20 to 6:00am on March 23 we received 1,369 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Other: 23

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Friday, March 20:

Priority calls only from 7:24pm to 11:07pm due to calls for service.

  • 6:12am – East – Adult Arrested Person: Officers responded to the Best Buy parking lot for a disturbance with a gun displayed. A 27-year-old male subject had chairs out in front of the store for a Pokémon card release. The subject became upset with another waiting customer who moved their chairs when the line moved. A verbal argument started. The subject displayed a gun to the other customer. Contact made with the subject. A gun was located/recovered. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct while armed. The subject was also banned from the store.
  • 8am – East – Injured Child: Officers responded to a local hospital for a report of an infant with serious non-life threatening injuries. Investigation continuing.  
  • 9:13am – North – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance at a residence between two adults (mom and daughter). The parties were separated when officers arrived. Contact was attempted with a 46-year-old female subject (daughter) and she would not open the door or communicate with officers/mental health provider. Probable cause developed to arrest the subject for domestic disorderly conduct. Officers disengaged.
  • 11:37am – West – Crash: Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash (S. High Point Rd/Mineral Point Rd). One of the driver's (41-year-old male) showed signs of impairment and attempted to start their vehicle to leave the scene. Officers were able to prevent this from occurring. The driver refused to do field sobriety tests and resisted officers. The driver was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (3rd offense) and resisting.
  • 12:33pm – North – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a parking lot of a convenience store for a disturbance taking place involving a 23-year-old male subject. Witnesses reported seeing the subject grab the victim around the throat. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct.
  • 2:14pm – Central – Disturbance: Officers responded to the Beacon for a report of a disturbance with a knife involved. The two involved subjects were not on scene when officers arrived. One subject identified (not contacted). Probable cause developed to arrest the subject, who remains at-large.
  • 5:13pm – Central – Trespassing: Officers contacted two subjects (44-year-old male and 33-year-old male) behind St. John's Church (300 block of E. Washington Ave) loitering in a no trespassing area (signs posted). The 44-year-old male was arrested for trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia. The other subject was arrested for trespassing.
  • 7:16pm – East – Crash: Officers responded to a scooter crash (Cottage Grove Rd/Amnicon Trail). It was reported that numerous subjects were driving their scooters at high rates of speed and possibly racing. One rider lost control and crashed. The subject was transported to a local hospital. Medical Examiner's office notified MPD that the rider sustained a traumatic head injury and was under organ procurement watch.
  • 10:58pm – Midtown – Sex Offense Miscellaneous: An adult was observed holding hands with a juvenile. This led to the discovery of thousands of text messages between the adult and the juvenile. Investigation continuing.
  • 11:04pm – North – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance involving an intoxicated 56-year-old male subject. EMS initially responded to the residence for a report of a subject falling. The victim hid alcohol from the subject after this occurred which made the subject mad. The subject threw the victim on the couch and held them down. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct and false imprisonment.

Saturday, March 21:

  • 3:32am – Central – Weapons Offense: Officers responded to the 100 block of Langdon St for a report a subject with a gunshot wound to their arm. The subject was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two involved subjects fled the area as officers were arriving. Both subjects were ultimately located and arrested. An 18-year-old male subject was located trying to hide in the lake. A rope was used to pull him to the shore. He was arrested for obstructing, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting. The other subject (16-year-old male) was also located hiding. He was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon under the age of 18 and resisting. 2 guns were located/recovered.
  • 4:03am – East – Adult Arrested Person: DOC requested MPD locate/arrest a client (34-year-old male) of theirs for not charging their ankle bracelet. The subject was located, arrested, and conveyed to jail on a probation/parole hold.
  • 5:05am – Central – Battery: Victim reported they were jumped in the 100 block of State Street. The victim sustained visible injuries. The 39-year-old male subject/suspect was arrested for battery.
  • 7:53am – Central – Intoxicated Driver: An 18-year-old male subject/driver was stopped in the middle of the roadway passed out behind the wheel. There were open intoxicants in the vehicle. The subject was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (1st offense) and cited for open intoxicants
  • 7:56am – Central – Homicide: Officers responded to a parking ramp (300 block of W. Washington Ave) for a subject (61-year-old female) with a gunshot wound. The subject was deceased. Investigation continuing.
  • 9:18am – East – Runaway Juvenile: A 16-year-old female subject was reported as running away a few days ago. Attempt to locate aired. The subject was listed as missing/runaway in the appropriate databases.   
  • 10:35am – North – Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance involving a 16-year-old male subject. The subject was reportedly throwing things and attacking family members. The subject left the residence before officers arrived. The subject was located/contacted nearby. The subject was arrested and received an evaluation for an emergency detention (not supported). The subject was transported to the Juvenile Reception Center for charges of disorderly conduct (3 counts), criminal damage to property, and intimidation of a victim.
  • 1:49pm – East – Death Investigation: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject (53-year-old female) who did not show up for sporting event for their child and could not be reached. The subject was located deceased at home. Nothing suspicious identified. Medical Examiner's office responded. Autopsy pending.
  • 4:12pm – South – Disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance between two brothers. A 22-year-old male subject has bail conditions to not be at the residence where the disturbance took place. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct, threats to law enforcement, resisting, and misdemeanor bail jumping.
  • 5:03pm – Central – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance involving a 51-year-old male subject. The victim reported to have been pushed and hit by the subject. The victim sustained visible injuries. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct.
  • 6:06pm – North – Adult Arrested Person: Officers responded to a clinic for a 45-year-old male patient/subject who had drugs on them. The subject refused to dispose of the drugs when asked to by medical staff. The subject was arrested for possession of meth, felony bail jumping, and misdemeanor bail jumping.
  • 7:46pm – East – Crash: Officers responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash (Mesta Lane/Commercial Ave). The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased. The driver (33-year-old male) stopped initially but then left the scene. Officers were in the area quickly and were able to stop the driver. The driver was arrested for hit-and-run involving death, operating while suspended causing death, and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (1st offense).
  • 9:10pm – West – Traffic Arrest: A traffic stop was conducted. Open intoxicants were observed in the vehicle. The passenger (52-year-old male) was observed with a holster on (after both occupants denied any weapons being in the vehicle). Additional units responded. The passenger was cited for carrying a concealed weapon, going armed while intoxicated, and open intoxicants. The driver (55-year-old female) was cited for open intoxicants.
  • 11:21pm – Midtown – Domestic Disturbance: A 21-year-old male subject was involved in an incident at Knuckleheads where he got sprayed in the face by staff because he was out of control.  The subject started to walk home and battered a stranger. The subject continued walking home and caused another disturbance when he got home. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct (2 counts), criminal damage to property, and disorderly conduct.

Sunday, March 22:

Priority calls only from 8:06am to 11:56am due to calls for service. 

  • 12:51am – North – Check Area: Officers responded to the Kennedy Heights area for a report of shots fired. Areas canvassed. Casings located in a parking lot. No reports of injuries or property damage at this time.
  • 12:28pm – Central – Battery: A 21-year-old male subject punched a victim several times. The subject took the victim's wallet and phone. Probable cause developed to arrest the subject. Contact attempted at the subject's residence. The subject's mother stated their lawyer would deal with the charges. The subject remains at-large.
  • 1:43pm – East – Theft: Officers responded to the Home Depot for a retail theft involving a 32-year-old male subject. The subject was arrested for felony retail theft repeater, misdemeanor bail jumping, resisting, and obstructing. The subject also had 2 outstanding warrants and charges pending from another jurisdiction.
  • 4:19pm – Central – Disturbance:  Officers responded to the Beacon for a disturbance involving a 59-year-old male subject. The subject was asked to leave the premises numerous times and he refused. He was arrested for trespassing and banned from the property.
  • 5:50pm – Central – Residential Burglary: An unknown subject entered numerous apartment units on W. Gorham St. Items were taken and left at other units in the same building. At this time all items are believed to have been recovered. Investigation continuing.
  • 5:55pm – North – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance involving a 56-year-old male subject. The subject pushed one victim and physically assaulted another. The subject was arrested for domestic battery and domestic disorderly conduct (2 counts). *Subject bailed out, returned home, and caused another disturbance. The subject was arrested again.
  • 7:28pm – East – Suspicious Person: Caller reported that an unknown subject (43-year-old male) was in their vehicle in the driveway. The caller confronted the subject and told them to leave. The subject displayed a screwdriver and a long metal object. The subject was contacted by officers. The subject resisted officers. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct while armed and resisting.
  • 9:20pm – North – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance involving a 19-year-old male subject. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct.
  • 11:21pm – East – Check Area: Officers responded to the 4500 block of Cottage Grove Rd for a report of shots fired. Areas canvassed. Casings located. An unoccupied residence was located with damage. No reported injuries at this time. Investigation continuing.

Monday, March 23:

  • 1:24am – Midtown – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance involving a 34-year-old male subject. The caller reported that the subject damaged items in the residence. The caller also reported a previous incident. The subject was not on scene but was located/contacted by officers. The subject was arrested for domestic battery, disorderly conduct, domestic disorderly conduct, and criminal damage to property (2 counts).
