The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.
Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.
Number of calls
From 6:00am on May 20 to 6:00am on May 21, we received 444 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.
A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:
- Central: 78
- East: 116
- Midtown: 74
- North: 77
- South: 46
- West: 45
- Other: 8
"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
Notable calls
Wednesday, May 20:
Priority calls only from 1:13pm to 3:58pm due to calls for service.
- 6:40am – East – Stolen Auto: A Ford was reported stolen from a driveway. The vehicle was left running, unlocked, and the keys were in the ignition. Attempt to locate aired. The vehicle was listed as stolen in the appropriate databases.
- 7am – Central – Stolen Auto: A Kia was reported stolen from overnight. Attempt to locate aired. The vehicle was listed as stolen in the appropriate databases.
- 7:20am – Midtown – Death Investigation: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject (64-year-old male) sleeping on a bench (Monroe St/West Lawn Ave). The subject was found cold to the touch and without a pulse. Lifesaving efforts were attempted but were not successful. Medical Examiner's office responded. Nothing suspicious identified.
- 8:43am – Central – Check Person: Officers responded to a check person request at W. Main St/Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The subject walked away from their group home and was under a Chapter 51 commitment. The subject was located, contacted, and placed in protective custody. The subject was transported to a local hospital. The subject was placed at a local facility and officers disengaged.
- 9:55am – Midtown – Trespass: Officers responded to a report of a 50-year-old female subject that was inside of the victim's vehicle and refusing to leave. The subject was contacted and refused to exit the vehicle. Officers disengaged but were called back when the subject continued to refuse to exit the vehicle. The subject was given additional opportunities to leave on her own. She refused. The subject was arrested for trespass to vehicle, resisting, and misdemeanor bail jumping.
- 12:21pm – West – Check Person: Officers responded to a check welfare request of a subject who threatened to kill themselves and their child. Contact made with both subjects. Mental health resources plugged in. Child Protective Services plugged in. Safety plan developed. Family involved.
- 1:37pm – North – Adult Arrested Person: A 39-year-old female subject with probable cause for their arrest was located and taken into custody. The subject was transported to jail.
- 4:05pm – Midtown – Runaway Juvenile: A 14-year-old female subject was reported as a runaway. The juvenile has a history of running away. Attempt to locate aired. The juvenile was listed as missing/runaway in the appropriate databases.
- 9:35pm – Central – Adult Arrested Person: A 62-year-old male subject was observed breaking into a vehicle. The subject was contacted and found to be in possession of a backpack that contained burglarious tools. The subject had a stolen laptop in the backpack. The subject stole a bike earlier in the day. The subject was arrested on numerous charges, including charges from UWPD.
Thursday, May 21:
- 12:32am – Midtown – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance involving a 35-year-old female subject. The subject and victim engaged in a verbal argument. The argument escalated. The subject put the victim in a headlock and punched them several times in the head. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct and domestic battery.
- 1:50am – Midtown – Battery: A 50-year-old male subject was released from a hospital and refused to leave the premises. The subject grabbed onto a healthcare worker and refused to let go. The subject was arrested for battery to healthcare worker.
