The information provided below is about some of the calls officers have responded to over the last 24 hours.

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working on the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on October 29 to 6:00am on October 30, we received 422 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Central: 71
  • East: 89
  • Midtown: 84
  • North: 76
  • South: 42
  • West: 53
  • Other: 7

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Monday, Nov. 3

  • 9:04am - South – Adult Arrested Person: Officers responded to callers regarding a subject traveling on foot and randomly entering homes in the 3000 block of Waunona Way. Each time the 51-year-old female subject is confronted by homeowners, she would leave and attempt to enter a different home. Police found the subject sitting on a porch. She told police she used cocaine in Monona before wandering into Madison. She was arrested on two counts of disorderly conduct.
  • 9:25am - Central – Adult Arrested Person: Officers respond to reports of a chronic trespasser. The 39-year-old male subject was located and arrested. He was arrested and cited on a municipal trespassing citation.
  • 10:50am - East – Adult Arrested Person: An officer observed a 35-year-old male subject wanted for probable cause for retail theft and felony bail jumping from a previous incident. The subject took off running in a field. Officers caught up to the subject and arrested him. The subject faces an additional charge of resisting.
  • 12:40am - East – Check Person: Officers were called to the 700 block of Rethke Avenue. A 41-year-old male subject threated to harm staff members. The subject was transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
  • 2:20pm - West – Attempt to Locate: Officers attempted to arrest a 39-year-old male subject in the 100 block of Morraine View Drive. The subject told officers “I’m not going. I’m going to fight you.”  Family members attempted to intervene and threatened to fight the officers. The subject took off out of the back door during the disturbance and evaded officers. The subject, who remains at large, faces resisting charges, as well as domestic-related charges.
  • 5:57pm - Midtown – Missing Adult: Officers responded to reports of a 73-year-old subject with dementia missing from the 2300 block of Allied Drive. A drone was launched in the search, and a silver alert was issued.

    The subject was eventually located and taken to the hospital before being cleared to go home.

  • 7:19 pm - Central – Disturbance: Officers were called to the 100 block of Broom Street for a disturbance. The manager of a grocery store told police a male subject was attempting to steal item. When confronted by staff, the subject spit in an employee's mouth. When officers arrived, the 61-year-old suspect fled the scene. An officer located him in the 300 block of State Street and resisted arrest. The subject then spit in the eye of an officer. The subject was arrested and taken to the hospital for possible significant exposure to the officer. The subject, who was carrying two knives, was deemed not a significant exposure. The suspect was taken to the Dane County Jail and charged with discharging bodily fluids at public safety officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon, disorderly conduct, retail theft, and resisting.
  • 7:57 pm - Midtown – Child abuse: Officers are investigating reports of child abuse. Investigation continuing.

Tuesday, Nov. 4:

  • 2:18am - North  – OMVWI Arrest/Intoxicated Driver: A 21-year-old subject was driving Gomez was driving west Hanson Rd and instead of taking a left or right turn onto HWY 51, the female subject went straight and drove into the field west of HWY 51. She was arrested and faces charges of first offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, and released to a responsible party.
