The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 72 hours (Friday morning to Monday morning).

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on October 17 to 6:00am on October 20, we received 1,123 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Central: 251
  • East: 211
  • Midtown: 199
  • North: 162
  • South: 108
  • West: 168
  • Other: 24

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Friday, October 17:

Priority calls from 4:25pm to 7:52pm due to calls for service.

  • 5:33am - East – Child Abuse: Officers responded to a report of an injured infant. Contact was made with both parents as well as staff of a business. It was reported to officers that both parents had been drinking during the morning and had a verbal argument. The infant was observed with a noticeable contusion on their head. The infant was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation.  Child Protective Services plugged in to develop a safety plan. Infant is in the care of medical staff. Investigation continuing.
  • 5:39am - East – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving a 37-year-old female subject. The victim sustained visible injuries. Probable cause developed to arrest the suspect, who remains at-large.
  • 9:51am – Midtown – Unwanted Subject/Property Damage: A 34-year-old male subject broke a door to get into a residence he is no longer allowed to be at. The subject was not on scene when officers arrived. Probable cause developed to arrest/charge the subject, who remains at-large.
  • 10:26am - East – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a 911 disconnect with sounds of a disturbance in the background. Contact made the victim. A disturbance was confirmed to have taken place involving a 36-year-old male subject (not on scene). Probable cause developed to arrest the suspect, who remains at-large.
  • 1:59pm - East – Stolen Auto: A vehicle was reported missing/stolen from a garage that had been left open overnight. A purse with a set of vehicle keys were also reported missing/stolen. Attempt to locate aired. The vehicle was listed as stolen in the appropriate databases.
  • 2:43pm - Central – Runaway Juvenile: A 15-year-old female ran away from home. The juvenile was in contact with her parent via text message. Attempt to locate aired. The juvenile was listed as a runaway/missing in the appropriate databases.
  • 3:15pm - West – Child Neglect: Officers were dispatched to a report of children left alone in a hotel room. Contact made with staff at the hotel, hotel guests and at the hotel room number that was of concern.  A young child answered the door and was found to be alone with another young child.  Both children did not know where their parents were.  Witness statements provided were that both children were often alone, wandering the hallways without supervision and that the children would ask for food.  Child Protective Services contacted and responded. Attempts made to contact the parents were unsuccessful.  The children were placed into foster care. Investigation continuing.
  • 4pm - East – Domestic Disturbance: Officers received information about a disturbance involving a 50-year-old male subject. Officers attempted to make contact with the subject but he refused to answer the door and told the officers to call his lawyer. Investigation continuing.
  • 9:11pm - West – Mental Health Conveyance: Officers received a request for assistance with a Chapter 51 return. The subject was placed at a local facility.
  • 11:46pm - East – Missing Adult: A 20-year-old female subject was reported as missing from her group home. The subject was in contact with her parent via text. Phone ping conducted. Vehicle plate was flagged. No immediate safety concerns noted.  The subject was listed as missing in the appropriate databases.

Saturday, October 18:

Priority calls only from 1:47am to 5:09am due to calls for service.

  • 1:51am - Central – Disturbance: A fight broke out on E. Main Street. A 25-year-old female subject was fighting another subject. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting.   
  • 4:58am - Midtown – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a residence for a deceased subject (29-year-old male). Medical Examiner’s office responded. Decedent had a history of health/medical concerns. Nothing suspicious identified.
  • 5:52am - East – Extortion: Two subjects were communicating on a dating app. One subject asked the other subject to move their communication to a different app. Photos were requested/sent by one another.  One subject then demanded money to be sent to them in exchange for not posting their photos to social media.  The victim sent the other subject money. Investigation continuing.
  • 7:57am - South – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a report of a subject (46-year-old male) hunched over and not moving. The subject was determined to be deceased upon arrival of officers. Medical Examiner’s office responded. Decedent had injuries that appeared to have been treated with staples. Nothing suspicious identified at this time. Autopsy scheduled.
  • 9:06am - West – Disturbance: Officers responded to a group home for a disturbance involving a 32-year-old female resident. The subject physically assaulted a staff member and armed herself with a knife. Mental health resources consulted. Emergency detention not supported. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct while armed.
  • 2:05pm - West – Disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 33-year-old male subject and 3 victims (caregivers to the subject). The subject was upset, caused property damage to the residence, threw items at the victims and physically assaulted the victims. Mental health resources consulted. Emergency detention not supported. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct (3 counts) and domestic battery (3 counts).
  • 3:21pm - South – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance between two subjects. A 33-year-old female subject was determined to be the primary aggressor and was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct.
  • 6:25pm - East – Mental Health Conveyance: Officers responded to a group home for a resident (20-year-old female) with schizophrenia who had armed themselves with a knife and was attacking staff. The subject was placed into protective custody and transported to a local hospital for an emergency detention evaluation. Emergency detention not supported. A probation/parole hold was placed on the subject and they were transported to jail on the hold.
  • 11:55pm - East – Intoxicated Driver: A 29-year-old male driver was observed not yielding to an ambulance. The driver/vehicle could not stay in its lane and was drifting into the bike lane. A traffic stop was initiated. The subject’s speech was slurred and there was an odor of intoxicants. The subject was put through field sobriety tests and was ultimately arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.

Sunday, October 19:

  • 3:31am - East – Sexual Assault: A victim reported being inappropriately touched by an Uber driver. Investigation continuing.
  • 6:32am - Midtown – Intoxicated Driver: An officer on their way to work was struck by a 37-year-old female driver. The driver continued to drive, ran into a barrier, made a U-turn to attempt to continue driving and ended up rolling their vehicle. The driver sustained significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The subject was cited for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and left in the care of hospital staff.
  • 2pm - Midtown – Check Person: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject who was reportedly in a violent relationship. Officers arrived at the residence and observed a subject in the home with a handgun. Contact made with the occupants at the residence. A 25-year-old male subject was arrested on a probation/parole violation. A 49-year-old male subject was arrested on outstanding probable cause (domestic related charge).
  • 4:23pm - East – Death Investigation: Officers responded to sounds of “two pops” and a red substance pooling on a patio. As officers were arriving in the area a resident advised that their son shot himself.  A 46-year-old male subject was located deceased with 2 self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Decedent had a history of alcohol/drug abuse as well as mental health concerns. Nothing suspicious identified.
  • 6:56pm - Central – Disturbance: Officers responded to a business for a 43-year-old male subject who was making threats to shoot and reporting to have a gun on him (no gun observed). Officers arrived on scene and made contact with the subject. The subject continued to make threats, did not cooperate with officers, and kept his hands on his waistband. The subject told officers to shoot him. Officers deployed a less-lethal round to take the subject into custody. The subject was transported to a local hospital for a medical clearance. The subject spit at hospital staff. No gun was located/recovered. The subject had a knife on him. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting, failure to comply with officer’s attempt to take them into custody and carrying a concealed weapon.
  • 11:19pm - North – Check Person: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject (juvenile). Contact made with the subject (and their parent) who admitted to ingesting a large dose of medication to “mellow out”. The subject was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation. Mental health resources consulted. An emergency detention was not supported. Safety plan put into place. The subject was left in the care of medical staff and their parent. Officers disengaged.
  • 11:40pm - Central – Crash: Officers responded to a bicycle vs. vehicle crash (Williamson St/Blount). The bicyclist was side-swiped by a driver/vehicle. The driver did not stop. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. A vehicle was called in and reportedly struck on the railroad tracks shortly after this incident occurred. The driver (24-year-old male) was contacted and linked to the crash. The subject was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (2nd offense), operating without a license, hit and run causing injury and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Monday, October 20:

Priority calls only from 2:11am to 2:47am due to calls for service.

  • 1:52am - North – Check Area: Officers responded to an alarm notification at a construction site of a new apartment complex. Live camera feed showed a subject on the property. Officers arrived in the area and observed the subject. The subject was able to flee and remains at-large.
