The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on October 21 to 6:00am on October 22, we received 397 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Central: 65
  • East: 80
  • Midtown: 58
  • North: 82
  • South: 43
  • West: 56
  • Other: 13

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Tuesday, October 21:

Priority calls only from 5:38pm to 11:26pm due to calls for services/resources/staffing available.

  • 5:35am - South – Disturbance: Officers responded to a hotel on Coho Street for a disturbance involving a 26-year-old male subject. The subject was intoxicated and became verbally aggressive towards another subject. The subject threw a lamp which struck a different subject. The subject was arrested for battery and disorderly conduct.
  • 9:21am - Midtown – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a report of a pulseless non-breathing subject (62-year-old male) who may have experienced a drug overdose. A subject on scene administered naloxone before officers/EMS arrived on scene.  Officers attempted other lifesaving efforts until fire/rescue arrived on scene.  Fire/rescue resumed lifesaving efforts but ultimately these efforts were not successful and the subject passed away. Residue, consistent with heroin, was located, as well as a glass pipe next to the decedent. The decedent had a history of drug abuse and medical/health concerns. Medical Examiner’s office responded. Nothing suspicious identified.  
  • 11:40am - North – Disturbance: Officers responded to the 500 block of Northport Drive for a 911 disconnect call where sounds of a disturbance was heard in the background. Contact was made with a subject who reported they were pistol whipped by a 70-year-old male subject who left the area in a vehicle. Officers responded to the subject’s residence and detained him. Information was relayed that the subject received a request from their grandchild who had been kicked out of an apartment, to come to their location to assist. The 70-year-old subject got into an argument with the caller/victim, which escalated to the victim being struck by the gun (loaded with a round in the chamber). The subject was arrested/charged with disorderly conduct while armed.
  • 3:22pm - South – Domestic Disturbance: Officers received information third hand that a subject was struck by a baseball bat by a 51-year-old female subject. The victim and subject were contacted. The subject arrived home under the influence and armed herself with a baseball bat. The subject was yelling at the victim, pacing back and forth and hit the victim. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct while armed and misdemeanor bail jumping (5 counts).
  • 5:15pm - Central – Adult Arrested Person: Officers responded to Festival Foods (E. Washington Ave) for a 35-year-old male subject harassing and threatening staff/patrons. The subject was contacted by officers. The subject was not cooperative with officers. A taser was deployed and unsuccessful. The subject grabbed an officer by the neck, lifted them off the ground and slammed the officer to the ground (causing the officer to lose consciousness briefly). The subject continued to resist and fight officers. The subject was transported to a local hospital. Mental health resources consulted. The subject was medically sedated. Mental health evaluation on hold. Criminal charges forthcoming for resisting causing soft tissue injuries (2 counts), resisting causing substantial battery, battery to law enforcement (2 counts), substantial battery and disorderly conduct (3 counts). The subject also has a pending probation warrant.
  • 5:45pm - East – Check Area: An officer observed a vehicle running and parked oddly in front of the lobby doors in the Motel 6 parking lot (E. Towne Blvd). The officer walked up to the vehicle and two subjects exited from the backseat and ran into the motel. A baggy of powdery substance was observed in plain view in the vehicle. Drug paraphernalia was also observed in plain view. Search of the vehicle yielded heroin, fentanyl and other drugs that were all individually packaged. An unloaded handgun was located underneath the front messenger seat. The driver of the vehicle when it arrived at the Motel 6 was identified as a 33-year-old male subject. Probable cause developed to arrest/charge the subject.  The subject remains at-large.
  • 7:38pm - Central – Adult Arrested Person: A 24-year-old male subject was released from jail and approached a victim at an intersection. The subject grabbed the victim and ran. The subject was located and arrested for 4th degree sexual assault and bail jumping. He was also found to be in possession of acid.  Additional charges may be forthcoming.
  • 9:56pm - Central – Check Person: Officers received a request, along with MFD/EMS, to check the welfare of a subject who possibly overdosed on pills. The subject admitted to taking pills in a suicide attempt. The subject was transported to a local hospital. Mental health resources plugged in. The subject voluntarily accepted services. Officers disengaged.

Wednesday, October 22:

  • 12:40am - Central – Non-Residential Burglary: A male subject pried the sliding doors to a hotel open with his hands and enters the building. A female subject entered the building after the male subject. A staff member hears something and confronts the subjects. The subjects both fled. Nothing reported as missing/stolen. Areas canvassed. Subjects not located at this time.
