The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 24 hours.
Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.
Number of calls
From 6:00am on October 22 to 6:00am on October 23, we received 388 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.
A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:
- Central: 57
- East: 101
- Midtown: 54
- North: 75
- South: 51
- West: 46
- Other: 4
"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.
Notable calls
Wednesday, October 22:
Priority calls only from 12:31pm to 3:26pm due to calls for service/staffing/resources available.

- 7:48am - North – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to multiple 911 disconnects. Information was obtained that a 31-year-old male subject was naked, “going crazy” and physically attacking another subject. Officers arrived on scene and attempted dialogue with the subject. The subject was not cooperative and resisted officers. An officer sustained a minor injury taking the subject into custody. A victim sustained visible injuries. It was reported that the subject smoked crack cocaine overnight. The subject was arrested for domestic false imprisonment, domestic intimidation of a victim, domestic battery, domestic disorderly conduct and resisting. Children were present so Child Protective Services was notified.
- 12:25pm - Central – Death Investigation: Officers were dispatched, along with MFD, to a report of a body that washed up near shore (Jenifer St). Medical Examiner’s office responded. Investigation continuing. *Dane County Sheriff’s Office has the lead on this investigation. MPD no longer involved in this investigation.
- 4:03pm - East – Disturbance: A 35-year-old female subject entered the Motel 6 property (E. Towne Blvd) where she is banned from. She was asked by staff to leave and she refused. The subject became disruptive and spit on a staff member. The subject left the property prior to officers arriving. The subject was located nearby and arrested for disorderly conduct and a probation/parole warrant.
- 4:39pm - South – Check Person: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject (41-year-old male subject) who was making finger gun shooting motions towards a school. The subject was contacted and told officers he was showing off his “tactical skills”. There was an odor of intoxicants on the subject. The subject has open cases with no drinking conditions. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct and bail jumping (3 counts).
- 6:08pm - North – Disturbance: Officers responded to UW East Hospital for a 44-year-old male subject causing a disturbance. The subject was intoxicated and had a knife in his possession (felon). The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct and felon in possession of a concealed knife.
- 8:15pm - Central – Check Person: Officers received a request to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject. Officers arrived on scene and the caller to 911 (40-year-old male subject) takes issues with police being present. The caller threatened the officers. The subject was detained. The subject who was reportedly suicidal was contacted and not found to be in need of any resources/police intervention. The caller was arrested for threats to law enforcement, resisting, obstructing, disorderly conduct, and possession of prescription drugs (not in their name).
- 8:56pm - South – Check Area: Officers responded to a report of shots fired with a round striking a vehicle (2200 block of W. Broadway). No injuries reported. Casing located/recovered. Witness reported that the suspect vehicle fled the area. Call determined to be in Monona PD’s jurisdiction. MPD officers assisted with various tasks. Monona PD has the lead on this investigation.
Thursday, October 23:
- 1:25am - Central – Suspicious Vehicle: An officer observed a vehicle with a laundry basket and bag tied to the roof of the vehicle. The vehicle was also full of empty intoxicants. A traffic stop was conducted. The driver (69-year-old male) attempted to flee but he was taken into custody and determined to be under the influence. The subject was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (1st offense), open intoxicants, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
- 1:25am - North – Intoxicated Driver: A traffic stop was conducted. The driver/subject (40-year-old male subject) was not cooperative. Tire deflation devices were put into place and the driver attempted to flee but their tires were deflated. The subject fled on foot but was apprehended. The subject was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (3rd offense), possession of a controlled substance, open intoxicants and resisting.
