The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last 72 hours (Friday morning to Monday morning).

Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

Number of calls

From 6:00am on October 31 to 6:00am on November 3 we received 994 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.

A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows:

  • Central: 191
  • East: 200
  • Midtown: 145
  • North: 178
  • South: 120
  • West: 129
  • Other: 31

"Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Notable calls

Friday, October 31:

  • 4:38am - South – Sexual Assault: Officers responded to a hotel for a report of a sexual assault. The victim was conveyed to a local hospital for an evaluation. A 30-year-old male subject was taken into custody and charged with 2nd degree sexual assault and strangulation.  
  • 5am - East – Intoxicated Driver: Officers responded to a report of a driver (49-year-old male) passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle in traffic (blocking traffic). The subject was uncooperative with officers and aggressed towards officers. The subject was detained. The subject continued to resist officers and grabbed the duty belt of an officer. The subject was transported to a local hospital for a medical clearance. The subject was subsequently booked into jail for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (3rd offense), resisting, possession of THC, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The subject was also issued numerous traffic citations. The subject continued to be uncooperative at jail and resisted Dane County Deputies. The subject was placed in segregation.
  • 10:31am - East – Disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance where it was reported that a 59-year-old male subject physically assaulted the caller/victim and pulled a gun on them the previous day. Investigation determined that the subject was in an elevator with his dog and two other subjects. The subject punched his own dog in the face resulting in a nosebleed. The caller confronted the subject about this.  The subject pushed the victim. The subject later confronted the victim with a gun. The subject was contacted by officers. The subject was not cooperative and resisted officers. The subject was arrested for mistreatment of animals, disorderly conduct while armed, and resisting.  The dog was checked on and found to not have any visible injuries.   
  • 1:20pm - North – Adult Arrested Person: Caller reported that a 39-year-old male subject was present which was against his bail conditions. Contact made with the subject and he was arrested for violating his bail conditions.
  • 2:20pm - North – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a residence for a disturbance between two subjects. A 22-year-old male subject yelled in the victim’s face and body slammed the victim. The subject also broke a door in the residence. The subject fled and was not on scene when officers arrived. Probable cause developed to arrest the subject, who remains at-large.
  • 6:48pm - East – Adult Arrested Person: Officers responded to an altercation that took place between two subjects. A subject slapped a 68-year-old male subject, who in turn, sucker-punched the victim in the head causing them to hit their head on the concrete and lose consciousness. Officers contacted the subject, who was uncooperative and resisted them. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The subject was arrested for substantial battery, resisting, and a probation hold.
  • 8:54pm - East – Death Investigation: Officers responded to a residence for a deceased subject (43-year-old male). The decedent had a history of health/medical concerns. Medical Examiner’s office responded. Nothing suspicious identified.
  • 10:42pm - Central – Battery: Officers responded to a business for a disturbance caused by a 35-year-old male subject. The subject was yelling at patrons and refused to leave the premises when staff asked him to. The subject tackled a staff member which caused them to strike their head on the floor. The subject also yelled a racial slur at the staff member. Officers contacted the subject who resisted them. The subject was arrested for battery (with a hate crime enhancer), disorderly conduct, and resisting (2 counts).   

Saturday, November 1:

  • 12am - West – Weapons Offense: Officers responded to the 6200 block of Strathmore Lane for multiple reports of shots fired and a home struck by gunfire. Casings were located/recovered. No injuries reported. Investigation continuing.
  • 1:19am - Central – Disturbance/Unwanted Person: An officer was flagged down on N. Henry St for a subject (35-year-old male) who was banned from a business and attempting to get back into the business to start fights. The subject was located in a vehicle on N. Henry St. The officer initiated contact on foot and noted signs of impairment. The subject was asked to exit the vehicle. The subject took off and fled from the area in the vehicle. Probable cause developed to arrest the subject, who remains at-large.  
  • 2:21am - East – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance involving two subjects. The victim reported being punched in the head by a 76-year-old male subject. The subject took away the victim’s cell phone which restricted them from calling 911. The victim fled the residence to get help. Contact was attempted with the subject at the residence but he did not answer the door. Probable cause developed to arrest the subject, who remain at-large.
  • 4:23am – East – Domestic Disturbance: Caller reported hearing a disturbance with sounds of screaming and crying. Contact made with the victim who reported being grabbed, strangled, and held against a wall by a 28-year-old male subject. The victim fled to a neighbor’s home. The subject was contacted and ultimately arrested for domestic strangulation, domestic battery (2 counts), and domestic disorderly conduct (2 counts).
  • 3:26pm - South – Check Person: Officers responded to check the welfare of a subject. Local mental health resources plugged in and requested an emergency detention be sought for the subject. The subject was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation and medical clearance. The subject spit at officers and hit an officer in the shoulder. Emergency detention being sought. Final outcome pending. Criminal charges also forthcoming for discharge bodily fluids and resisting.
  • 5:29pm - East – Death Investigation: A 59-year-old male subject was called in as being deceased in his vehicle. Medical Examiner’s office responded. Death appears to be self-inflicted. Nothing suspicious identified.
  • 8:31pm - South – Check Area: Officers responded to Leopold Park for a report of people smoking marijuana and shooting off guns. Areas checked. No evidence of any shots fired. Someone in the park did not hear any shots fired. Two other subjects in the park were contacted. No guns were located. One of the subjects (20-year-old male) had an outstanding warrant. The subject was transported to jail.
  • 10:11pm – Central – Juvenile Arrest: Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 14-year-old male subject. Officers diffused the first time they were called to the residence and left with no charges. Officers were called back to the residence approximately an hour later for another disturbance. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct and transported to the Juvenile Reception Center.

Sunday, November 2:

Priority calls only from 3:11pm to 5:45pm due to calls for service/resources available/staffing available.

  • 1:16am – East – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance between two subjects. The victim reported being pushed on the bed and strangled by a 37-year-old male subject. The victim had visible injuries. The subject was arrested for domestic strangulation, domestic battery, and domestic disorderly conduct.
  • 9:35am – Central – Sexual Assault: Officers responded to a report of a sexual assault. Investigation continuing.
  • 12:34pm – North – Disturbance: Officers responded to a 911 abandoned call where a disturbance was found to have occurred and a gun was displayed by a subject who left the area in a vehicle. Vehicle observed in another jurisdiction. Traffic stop conducted. Investigation continuing.
  • 2:45pm – South – Intoxicated Driver: Officers responded to a report of a 45-year-old female subject passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle. Drug paraphernalia observed. The subject failed field sobriety testing. The subject was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (4th offense). Small baggies of suspected drugs were located. Additional charges may be forthcoming pending testing results.
  • 3:03pm – Central – Disturbance: Officers responded to a business for a report of a 25-year-old male subject trespassing. The subject lied about his identity to officers. The subject was arrested for resisting and felony bail jumping. The subject was also cited for trespassing.
  • 3:44pm – East – Disturbance: Officers responded to the mall for a 46-year-old male subject causing a disturbance. Mall security asked the subject to leave. The subject lunged at the security officer. Officers arrived and the subject ran towards an officer with his fists up yelling loudly. The subject ignored officer’s directions. Taser deployed. The subject actively resisted officers attempting to detain/arrest him. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting. The subject was also issued a citation for trespassing.
  • 4:20pm – East – Disturbance: A subject walking their dog was approached by an unknown male subject who took off one pair of pants, displayed a utility tool/knife and started to chase them. The subject fled on a bicycle after the victim ran to get help. Areas checked without success of locating the subject. Investigation continuing.
  • 4:38pm – West – Domestic Disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance at a residence involving a 25-year-old male subject. The subject did not allow the victim to leave the residence when they wanted to. The subject struck the victim who was holding their infant in their arms. The victim fell and hit their head. It was not known if the infant hit their head as well. EMS checked the infant and no concerns were identified. The subject was arrested for domestic battery, domestic false imprisonment, attempted strangulation, disorderly conduct, and misdemeanor bail jumping. Safety planning discussed with the victim. Resources provided to the victim.
  • 6:01pm – East – Disturbance: Officers responded to a report of two subjects fighting outside. A 45-year-old male subject was intoxicated and was upset with his daughter’s boyfriend. The subject started to chase the boyfriend when a family member tried to intervene. The family member (a minor) sustained an injury. The subject was arrested for physical abuse to a child.  
  • 7:51pm – East – Disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 42-year-old female subject. The subject was asked to leave the premises in which she complied with. Two additional calls came in reference the same subject, both of which were unfounded.  The subject returned to the same location and was ultimately arrested and transported to jail for a municipal trespassing citation.

Monday, November 3:

  • 12:11am – East – Residential Burglary: Officers responded to a residence where a vehicle was reported stolen, along with a purse, credit cards, and cash. The stolen vehicle was located unoccupied (Vernon Ave/Martha Ln). Areas checked. The suspect gained entry to the home by using a garage door opener that was in an unlocked vehicle in the driveway. Keys to other vehicles were missing/stolen. Video surveillance shows the suspect wearing all black clothing, a mask, and gloves.  Investigation continuing.
  • 12:31am – Central – Adult Arrested Person: A traffic stop was conducted. The driver (50-year-old male) 2 outstanding warrants. The driver was arrested and transported to jail.
  • 3:08am – North – Road Rage: Caller reported they inadvertently cut off another driver (Northport Dr/Packers Ave). The suspect/vehicle followed the caller who ended up on a dead-end-street. The caller exited their vehicle to apologize to the other driver. The suspect exited their vehicle holding a knife and began yelling racial slurs at the victim. The suspect threatened to shoot the caller and went to open their trunk. The caller ran on foot and called 911. Suspect/vehicle left the area. Areas checked for the suspect without success.  City cameras viewed. Investigation continuing.
