Incident Details
A man was arrested after crashing a stolen motorcycle last week.
On Thursday, a Traffic Enforcement Safety Team (TEST) officer was doing proactive traffic enforcement on the westbound Beltline.
The officer clocked the motorcycle going more than 90 mph in the 55 mph zone.
The motorcycle driver cut through multiple lanes of traffic and tried to exit the Beltline once he spotted the officer. He also refused to pull over when the officer attempted a traffic stop.
The motorcycle driver was breaking heavily to avoid hitting other vehicles and then crashed into a grassy area near the off-ramp.
The driver attempted to run from the area but was quickly taken into custody.
Responding officers noticed the motorcycle had been hot-wired and had a stolen license plate.
Officers on the call worked together to track down the owner of the stolen bike and the owner of the license plate.
Neither gave consent to have their property taken.
The motorcycle driver, Jeffrey B. Hoffman, 38, of Madison was arrested for operating a vehicle without an owner's consent, resisting, fleeing an officer and a probation hold.
He was taken to the Dane County Jail after being medically cleared at the hospital.
