MPD investigating after teen arrived at hospital with gunshot wound

Officers responded to a local hospital Thursday night after a 16-year-old male arrived with a gunshot wound.

The shooting happened along the 5900 block of Milwaukee Street.

An 18-year-old woman was with the teen at the time of the shooting. Both teens provided statements that the shooting was accidental. This remains an ongoing and active investigation.

During the investigation, it was revealed the teen's mother had been gone for the past month, living out of state and that no one was checking in on him.

Child Protective Services was notified of the situation, and he was placed in the care of family.
