Halloween Activities

Halloween 2020

Halloween needs to look different this year to reduce risk of spreading COVID-19.

While there are no official Trick-or-Treating hours, it can still happen with modifications. See the fact sheet below for how to reduce your risk this Halloween.

Halloween Tips from Public Health

Trick-or-Treating

The City of Madison does not have official Trick-or-Treating hours.

Recommended hours: 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 31, 2019

Additional Trick-or-Treating Safety

  • Make sure your costume is visible to vehicles and others.
  • Do not use toy weapons as part of any costume.
  • Only trick or treat with people you live with.
  • Only approach homes that have candy outside or allow you to avoid ringing the doorbell.
  • Stay on sidewalks, and obey traffic signs.
  • Carry a flashlight.
  • Don’t eat any candy until an adult can check it for you.
  • Make sure costumes do not impede movement or vision.
  • Remember to wear a cloth face covering. A Halloween mask alone does not provide enough protection.
  • Make sure your costume is visible to vehicles and others.
  • Do not use toy weapons as part of any costume.
  • Do not trick or treat alone.
  • Only approach homes that are well lit, and only approach the front door.
  • Stay on sidewalks, and obey traffic signs.
  • Carry a flashlight.
  • Don’t eat any candy until an adult can check it for you.
  • Make sure costumes do not impede movement or vision.
