2021 Operating Budget - Eken Park Playground Replacement Workshop - Polling Place Change

October 25, 2020 2:44 PM

Hi Neighbors,

I would like to update you on the operating budget of the City of Madison which will come to the Finance Committee tomorrow (Monday) afternoon for approval. The budget will be discussed and voted on by the Finance Committee and then it will come to the Council for adoption. Please review the budget and all the amendments. Additionally, I would encourage you to attend the Finance Committee meeting and provide your input.

The meeting agenda can be accessed here.  The budget amendments can be accessed here.

I am presenting an amendment to increase the Community Development Division – Affordable Housing budget by $50,000 to fund a contract for street outreach to Madison's unsheltered population. Street outreach contractors provide outreach to unsheltered individuals and direct them towards homeless services such as housing, medical care, and mental health services. An RFP will occur in the Spring of 2021 to identify the 2021 provider for the proposed funding.

If you have any questions about the budget or amendments please feel free to reach out to me.

Eken Park Playground Replacement Workshop

The City of Madison Parks Division is improving the playground at Eken Park and we want your input.

This process includes an online playground workshop specific to playground replacements anticipated for 2021 including Olin Park, Norman Clayton Park, Orchard Ridge Park and Swallowtail Park.

The online workshop will include a larger group discussion, providing opportunity for neighborhoods to learn and share ideas, then will break out into smaller individual online break out 'rooms' to address design considerations specific to each park. Following the online workshop, staff will use input gathered at this meeting to develop two playground concepts, which will be presented at a second online playground meeting held this winter. The new playground equipment will be installed in 2021.

Please feel free to invite your children to the Zoom meeting to help provide input on the playground!

Polling Place Change

There is a polling place update: The Warner Park Rainbow Shelter will be replaced with the Lakeview Lutheran Church at 4001 Mandrake Road to accommodate a polling place for the November election when weather can be unpredictable. This polling place will host Wards 33 and 34, formerly hosted in the Warner Park building.
