Flashlight Egg Hunt

Saturday, April 9, 8:15pm - 9:15pm

Ages: Grades 4 - 8

Registration Fee: $10 for Madison residents, $15 for non-residents

Flashlight Egg Hunt is back and it's better than ever! Think you can handle the darkness? Then find your flashlights and register for the MSCR Flashlight Egg Hunt to see what we have hiding in the dark. We have expanded our hunting grounds and added more eggs-now over 2,000 of them! Everyone leaves with something sweet, but only the lucky ones find our prize eggs. The event is held rain or moonshine, so dress for the weather. Absolutely no adults are allowed on the hunting field, but are welcome to watch the fun. Pre-registration is required, Event is expected to sell out. Participants must bring a bag and a strong flashlight.

Spring Election - Tuesday April 5, 2022

As you prepare for the Spring Election on April 5, the City of Madison Clerk's Office wants to remind you what types of photo ID you can use for voting in Wisconsin.

In-person absentee voting began on Tuesday, March 22nd and is available at several locations throughout the City of Madison. The location of closest proximity to D16 is the Pinney Branch Library (516 Cottage Grove Rd). In-person absentee voting is available at Pinney 11:00am – 6:00pm Monday – Friday (3/22/22-4/1/22) and 11:00am – 4:00pm Saturday 4/1/22. Be advised, registering to vote on April 2, 2022 is prohibited per state law. Completed absentee ballots can also be returned to an in-person absentee voting location during the location's voting hours.

Senator Melissa Agard (State Senate, District 16) will be hosting three listening sessions in our community during the month of April. This is an opportunity to have conversations wiith State leaders and share what matters most to you.

1. 48th Assembly District Listening Session with Representative Samba Baldeh

2. 46th Assembly District Listening Session

When: Wednesday, April 13, from 5:30 – 6:30 pm
Where: Stoughton Opera House – 381 E Main St, Stoughton, WI 53589 Please note that this listening session will require proof of vaccination and wearing a mask for attendance, as per Stoughton Opera House policy.

City of Madison Employment Opportunities

Open and competitive opportunity for Metro Transit Operators with the City of Madison Metro Transit. The positions currently start full time at $25.43/hour. In addition, applicants do not have to get their Commercial Driver's Permit prior to their first day with Metro. Metro will train those they hire (at the full hourly rate) to take their permit and then, their CDL road test. Passing both of these tests are required to maintain employment.

The Engineering Division is looking for Seasonal Construction Inspectors-Hourly to join our team! No experience is necessary to apply. Training is provided. Seasonal Construction Inspectors will also receive a bonus of $200 for every 80 hours worked, up to a maximum of $3,000 total bonus for the full 2022 season in addition to their hourly wage.

Highlights for the Week of March 28, 2022

Events

The City of Madison along with The Bubbler at Madison Public Library offer an exciting opportunity for an artist(s) to have an 11-month residency in a dedicated art studio at Thurber Park. The Artist-in-Residence has access to a rent-free studio space (including heat, electricity, and water but not WIFI service) for 11-months, and receives a $7,080 stipend. The artist has the opportunity to create an outdoor public artwork for consideration by the City of Madison. In addition, the Artist-in-Residence works closely with The Bubbler at Madison Public Library to engage the local community through open studio days, community workshops, or other strategies determined by the artist and residency administrators. The Madison Senior Center's annual celebration of local artists age 55+ is back after a two year pandemic hiatus. All artists age 55+, those who like to dabble, those who are quite serious, and everyone in between, are invited to participate. Learn more here.

Announcements

Financial assistance to homeowners impacted by the coronavirus pandemic is now available through the Wisconsin Help for Homeowners (WHH) program - On Monday, March 7, Governor Tony Evers announced the launch of the Wisconsin Help for Homeowners (WHH) program - a $92 million statewide program. Eligible homeowners (with and without a mortgage) who have experienced financial hardship because of the coronavirus pandemic can now receive financial assistance with overdue housing-related bills like mortgage payments, local property taxes, utilities, housing counseling and legal services. Eligible households can receive a maximum award of $40,000. Application is live and open on a first-come, first-served basis at homeownerhelp.wi.gov. To get additional information and assistance, call 1-855-2-HOME-WI (4663-94). Application portal and call center are available in Spanish, Hmong, and Somali in addition to English.

Landlords and renters may also receive financial assistance as a result of the pandemic through Dane CORE 2.0 Emergency Rental Assistance.

The Streets Division would like to remind residents that the Badger Road and South Point drop-off sites will be closed on Monday, March 28. The only drop-off site that will be open on March 28 is the drop-off site at 4602 Sycamore Avenue. The site will be open 7:30am until 2:30pm on this date. Madison BCycle and Madison Public Library have relaunched the Community Pass Program in conjunction with the return of BCycles to stations around Madison on March 15. The program, in partnership with the Madison Public Library Foundation , enables riders to use their Madison Public Library card to access one of over 350 electric bikes. Learn more here.

Save the Date

Make Music Madison registration for its tenth annual outdoor, citywide musical celebration held on the summer solstice, June 21, opened on Friday, March 25. The 2021 event featured 312 concerts at 112 venues with over 1,000 individual musicians. Registration to perform or host a performance opens this month.
