Week of June 23rd & Public Information Meetings

posted

Dear District 16 Residents,

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend! Given the recent heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service, I want to encourage you to check out the city’s resources for staying safe during extreme heat events. Remember to stay cool, hydrate, and check on your neighbors and loved ones.

Thank you to everyone who attended the budget engagement sessions that the city has hosted over the past few weeks. It’s been wonderful to see folks from across our district get more engaged with the budgeting process. There will be one more session on Tuesday, June 24th from 6:00-8:00pm at the HUB on Park Street.

Sean at Garage Sale's

It was great to see so many of you this weekend at the Elvehjem Neighborhood’s Garage Sales! On June 28th, the Elvehjem Neighborhood Association will also be celebrating July 4th with a parade and full day of activities. I look forward to seeing many of you there!

As the weather is warming up and more people are out and about, I always encourage folks to report any concerns and problems they are seeing in the neighborhood using the city’s “report a problem” tool.

While this week’s update is on the shorter side, there is some important information on public engagement meetings below that I hope you will be able to attend. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out! I am eager to hear from you.

-Sean

South Stoughton Road Public Information Meeting

US 51 Stoughton Rd

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) invites you to their third public involvement meeting for the South Stoughton Road Study, covering 4.4 miles from Voges Road/Terminal Drive in McFarland to WIS 30 in Madison. The study will be presenting and requesting feedback on intersection conceptual alternatives to improve safety, mobility, and community connectivity issues for all travelers on the Stoughton Road South corridor.

Tuesday, July 15th, 2025
5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

La Follette High School – Cafeteria
702 Pflaum Road
Madison, WI 53716

This meeting will be an open house format and will focus on reviewing conceptual alternatives at each intersection along the corridor and providing input that will help shape the vision for the corridor. In addition, the city will have a representative available to provide updates on the Southeast Area Plan.

The city is working to ensure the redesign is significantly more pedestrian-friendly, as many of our youth must cross Stoughton Road to access Senate Middle School and La Follette High School.

Housing Forward Public Information Meeting

The city of Madison is hosting a virtual public information meeting on the three Housing Forward resolutions that were introduced at the common council meeting on June 17th and I was proud to co-sponsor.

These three proposals aim to make it easier to build the types of smaller homes that we used to build across Madison and already see in many of the city’s established neighborhoods.

This public meeting will include an informational presentation explaining the details of each of the proposals and allow time for questions. If you are unable to attend the virtual meeting, a video recording of the meeting will be posted publicly.

Wednesday, July 5th, 2025
6:00-7:00pm
Virtual – Watch online

You can learn more about the proposals and see responses to Frequently Asked Questions on the city's informational webpage for the proposals.
