Reminder of May 31 4:30p UDC meeting on JD McCormick’s State St Proposal:

JD McCormick’s 428-444 State St development proposal is coming back to the Urban Design Commission May 31st. If anyone has opinions about the development, please don’t hesitate to share them with me district2@cityofmadison.com

Downtown Updates

West Campus District Plan  Open Houses

The West Campus District Plan is taking shape PDF . There will be two open houses to discuss the current concepts:

  • June 20, 11am at the Health Sciences Learning Center Atrium
  • June 21, 4pm at the Bakke Recreation and Wellbeing Center (which also affords the public the opportunity to see this amazing new building!)
 

Metro Transit Network Redesign

The Metro Transit Network Redesign will go into effect Sunday, June 11. It has been 20 years since the last redesign. All routes, schedules, and bus numbers will change. Navigate the changes using these resources:

Cars on State, Saturday, June 3, 2023:

One of Madison's finest downtown summer traditions, the 14th Annual Classic Car Show will be held Saturday, June 3rd. This free show spans six blocks of State Street in Downtown Madison. This family-friendly event offers a perfect day for everyone to come downtown, take a stroll around the Farmers Market on the Square and see a wonderful array of vintage cars. You can talk to the owners, grab a bite to eat, and shop at locally owned downtown businesses. Car enthusiasts can explore the history and unique characteristics of classic cars and trucks

City Updates

John Nolen Drive Watershed Study, Tuesday, May 30, 2023:

A public information meeting has been scheduled for 6 p.m., May 30, 2023, via Zoom. Registration prior is required: May 30, 2023 Public Information Meeting Registration.  The City of Madison is completing a watershed study in the John Nolen Drive watershed (as shown below). The City of Madison contracted with an engineering consulting firm to complete this study.

 

REMINDER WisDOT Interstate Alternative Meeting | June 1, 2023 | 6-7:30pm

This meeting is being held to discuss potential changes to the Interstate and interchanges in the Madison area. These alternatives are part of WisDOT’s larger I-39/90/94 corridor study that stretches from Madison to Wisconsin Dells. At the meeting information about the proposed project will be provided as well as opportunities to provide feedback to determine the future of safety infrastructure along the Interstate, which could include, interchange proposals that may affect traffic patterns, commute choices, and development in the area east of Stoughton Road.

The meeting will be held at the Steamfitters Local 601 Training Facility (6310 Town Center Drive)

You can view study information and the proposed alternatives, submit comments, and sign-up for email updates on WisDOT’s project website  If you have questions or are unable to attend but would like to learn about the study, please contact I-39/90/94 Study Project Manager Frank Pritzlaff (Frank.Pritzlaff@dot.wi.gov; (608) 246-3803) or questions for the City of Madison can be directed to Ben Zellers (bzellers@cityofmadison.com; (608) 266-4866) with the City’s Planning Division.In addition to the topic of WisDOT’s I-39/90/94 corridor study, WisDOT will also be hosting two upcoming public involvement meetings for the Madison Beltline Planning and Environment Linkages (PEL) Study  . If you are subscribed to the City’s Road Construction email list, you will receive an invitation soon. The PEL Study entails a three part process and is being used to focus on improving safety and mobility for all modes of ​​travel while reducing congestion and limiting impacts to a responsible level of social, cultural, and environmental effects. Please note, the PEL is a long-term planning study and no construction projects are identified at this time. I will blog more about these meeting and include info for those interested in attending/participating, next week. There are a lot of studies going on and we don’t want to cause confusion!

  • City of Madison Seeks Short Poems for 2023 Bus Lines Program: The Madison Poet Laureate is seeking short poems from Madison residents to be considered for the annual Bus Lines poetry project.

  • Kids Fishing Day, Saturday, June 3, 2023: Every year the Yahara Fishing Club sponsors this event, which is on the same weekend that an adult fishing license is not required.   It has been at the Warner Park Lagoon from 9:00 am to noon.  A lot of fish are usually caught, including a couple good-sized large mouth bass and a lot of decent blue gills.

Meet us at Breese Stevens Field where we’ll head out on a 9-mile no-drop group ride to Olin Park and back. Stick around after the ride to enjoy some block party vibes at the field before Forward Madison takes on the Central Valley Fuego later that evening.
