Join me, City of Madison Planning Division, and Wisconsin DOT staff to learn about changes that could be on the horizon in Northeast Madison. The City of Madison Planning Division is currently working on the Northeast Area Plan, which will guide growth and change in the coming years. City staff will present and discuss the recommendation framework, the precursor to the draft plan which will be considered for approval in early 2024, as well as polling results for the $400,000 community action plan expenditures. Wisconsin DOT staff will share information on the Hwy 51 changes being considered. These include several major intersection redesigns including E. Washington Avenue, Lexington/Commercial Avenues and Anderson Street.  Enjoy great food and provide feedback on projects that could have a major impact on the area in the coming years. Note: if you live in the Mayfair Park or Burke Heights neighborhoods of District 3, you should have recently received a postcard with this information. See you there!

  • Alder Kristen Slack (District 19) Announces Resignation from Madison Common Council Effective January 10, 2024; Applications Being Accepted to Fill Vacancy: Alder Kristen Slack, District 19 (on the west side of Madison), has announced her resignation from the Madison Common Council effective January 10, 2024, at noon. Alder Slack and I worked together as brand-new alders trying to understand how things work at the City, especially on few environmental and housing/homeownership policy issues and on the budget. I have appreciated that she approaches topics creatively, asks good questions that don’t occur to others, and has worked very hard for her district – especially on environmental and lake health issues. I really appreciate all of her collaboration and her service and I wish her and her family the best.

A note about these blog posts over the holidays

The next few weeks over the holidays will bring a slowdown in City meetings and City business. I probably won’t send out more of these updates until the new year, with the exception of potential notable news or updates about winter storms that affect City services. I hope you find these updates helpful! If you ever have feedback or specific questions about things not covered in these updates, please feel free to send me an email: district3@cityofmadison.com. I hope you’re able to enjoy time with friends and family over the holidays!
