The Transportation Commission meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 28, in virtual format at 5:00 p.m. Agenda items include approving the State / Municipal Agreement for Transportation Alternatives Program Projects for the Capital City Path Extension and the West Towne Path Extension, a discussion of e-bike speed on shared-use paths, and a review of the Transportation Improvement Plan.

Prescribed Burns in District 3 in March

This year, City of Madison Engineering Division staff in partnership with Conservation Parks staff and/or volunteers or Madison Fire Department will be conducting prescribed burns on areas of existing native vegetation. Prescribed burns are an important management tool for Wisconsin’s native plant communities. The timeline for these burns to occur will be between March 11 and May 31. The burns will only take place under specific weather conditions in order to manage smoke and minimize impacts to neighbors. The correct conditions for prescribed burns can be difficult to predict, so it is not usually possible to provide exact dates. Burn professionals will install appropriate road signage on the day of the burn.

District 3 Prescribed burn areas include:

  • Saturn Dr N and S Ponds, 6212 Saturn Dr and 401 Galileo Dr*
  • Milky Way Bioretention Pond, 439 Milky Way*
  • Sycamore Park pollinator planting, at south end of park near N dead end of Pulley Dr

Residents living near these areas should expect to see postcards in the mail soon.

Northeast Area Park Development Plans – Public Input Timeline

Parks has been working concurrently with the Northeast Area Plan to prepare Park Development Plans for our neighborhood and mini parks in the Northeast Area. After gathering input from residents and reviewing the existing park amenities and condition, we have now prepared Park Development Plans for each park. The plans are available for viewing on the project website. The plans will be included on the agenda and considered for potential adoption at the Board of Park Commissioners March 13th meeting. Residents will be able to provide written comments to BPC or register to speak at the meeting.

If residents have any comments prior to March 1, those can be shared via email with Adam Kaniewski, akaniewski@cityofmadison.com) for consideration of revisions prior to the BPC meeting.

Three City of Madison Golf Courses Open Unseasonably Early

East District Coffee with a Cop

From MPD’s new East District Neighborhood Resource Officer Laura Deloach:

“Hello!  We will have our monthly 'Coffee with a Cop', at the East District Station (809 S Thompson Dr.) in the front community room. Coffee will be provided for those who join us! For this event and future Coffee with a Cop events we will be continuing our efforts of adjusting when we hold our event to allow for more flexibility across the community. My hope is by adjusting the time for our Coffee with a Cop event we can fit more individual's schedules. Our next coffee day is scheduled on Monday February 26, 2024, from 10:00am-12:00am. Please feel free to stop in at any time to participate. Parking is available in the front lot of EPD. Please do not pass the fence line or park near the squads. Should the lot run out of parking spaces street parking is available as well as along a side of the EPD driveway. Please do not block the driveway as officers will need to come and go to address calls for service in the community.  As usual, we are excited about this opportunity and ask that you spread the word to anyone who might be interested in this community event.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at ldeloach@cityofmadison.com.”
