With the beginning of school approaching, so comes the beginning of the Badger Football season. Please note the first game will be this coming Thursday, August 28, beginning at 8pm.
You may have seen the news that Osteria Novella will be going in where Novanta pizzeria was on University Avenue. The public meeting for their alcohol license will be held in the Quarry community room at 6pm Monday, August 25.
Updates and Notices
- Midvale Blvd Resurfacing: Give feedback on the upcoming Midvale Blvd resurfacing project by September 2, 2025.
- Water main flushing will begin Monday August 25 west of Breese Terrace north of Regent Street.
Boards, Commissions, and Committee Meetings

- Finance Committee: The Finance Committee meeting will take place on Monday, August 25, at 4:30 p.m. in virtual format. Agenda items include accepting the Economic Development Division’s “2025 Small Business Assistance Policy Paper” as the foundation for structuring and conducting a Request for Proposals (RFP) process, an overview of the 2026 Operating Budget Requests and the Budget Process, and a discussion on the format for the 2026 Budget Deliberation Meeting.
- Plan Commission: The Plan Commission meeting will take place on Monday, August 25, at 5:30 p.m. in virtual format. Agenda items include staff updates on the Southwest and Southeast Area Plans, as well as development-related requests in Districts 4 and 12.

Public Information Meetings (PIMs)
- MacArthur Road, Larson Court, Sycamore Avenue Reconstruction, Wednesday, August 27: The purpose of this project is to reconstruct the pavement and replace underground utilities on MacArthur Rd from E Washington to S End, Larson Ct from E End to MacArthur Rd, and Sycamore Ave from MacArthur Rd to Mendota St. A public information meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m., Aug. 27, 2025. Registration is required.
- Pflaum Road Resurfacing, Thursday, August 28: City Engineering plans to remove and replace the asphalt pavement and road base, replace sanitary sewer main and laterals, replace water main and laterals, replace storm sewer and private storm connections, replace curb and gutter, sidewalk and drive aprons as needed.A public information meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m., Aug. 28, 2025, via Zoom. Registration is required.

- Winners of Madison Public Library’s 2025 WE READ Youth Voices Writing Contest Announced: Three young Madison writers were announced and recognized this week as the winners of Madison Public Library and Forward Madison FC’s 4th Annual WE READ Youth Voices Writing Contest.
- Madison Hires New City Clerk: Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway has appointed Lydia A. McComas to be the City of Madison’s next Clerk.
- Madison’s Aaa Bond Rating Renewed: For the 52nd year in a row, Moody’s Investors Service has assigned the City of Madison the highest possible bond rating.
- Goodman Pool Season Ends August 24: The Goodman Pool will close for the 2025 season after Sunday, August 24, weather permitting. This planned closure is based on staffing availability, as most of our lifeguards are students returning to school.
- From Council to Community: Meet Your Eastside and Northside Alders: The City of Madison Common Council and Madison College are excited to invite residents to a meet-and-greet event to connect with their Eastside and Northside Alders.
- Period Party at Madison Public Library Set to Expand to Multi-Session Series this September (link is external): Madison Public Library and Public Health Madison & Dane County are partnering to offer informational health events focused on menstruation at Goodman South Madison Library in September.
- Have you been out and about in Madison’s parks this year and captured a few photos? You might consider submitting them to the Madison Parks Photography Contest. The contest is open to all ages. Photos meeting the requirements detailed online may be submitted through Monday, September 1 and will be considered for the 2026 Madison Parks calendar. Each year we publish and sell a stunning wall calendar featuring the winning images, with all proceeds benefiting the Madison Parks Foundation. Winning photographers receive one complimentary calendar per selected image.
- REAP Food Group is co-leading a community-centered initiative to develop a comprehensive regional food system action plan for Dane County. Our mission is to create a collaborative, inclusive process that ensures the voices of all stakeholders—farmers, food producers, retailers, buyers, agencies, organizations, and everyday eaters—are heard and integrated. - Monday Mornings at The Glen, Monday, August 25: Enjoy The Glen for a stroll, nature, workout or leashed dog walk from sunrise to 8:00 am. Tee times resume at hole #1 at 8:00am. Visitors should be alert for golf balls and golfers while exiting the course.
- The Fair Housing Center of Greater Madison is offering a free in-person fair housing training seminar for owners and managers of rental properties, or staff operating shelters or residential programs, in Madison. This event will be held Monday, August 25 from 2:00-4:30 pm at Madison Public Library, Sequoya Branch (4340 Tokay Blvd., Meeting Room B). - Learn to Kayak, Monday, August 25: Learn to Kayak with Madison Boats! Register online for this free class offered at Marshall Park. All ages are welcome! Anyone under 18 must have a guardian present and anyone under the age of 7 must have their guardian in the kayak.
- Learn & Ride, Tuesday, August 26 (Junction Road Park & Ride and Baldwin Station): Both events are drop-in formats and take place at two convenient locations, open to the public. Don't miss this chance to see firsthand how to ride the bus and get helpful tips on navigating transit options across the greater Madison area with Metro Transit. All events will be held inside or near the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations.
- Drywall Installation and Repair by Project Home, Tuesday, August 26: Is your drywall work less than perfect? This comprehensive class takes the frustration out of drywall projects. - Cyclocross Practice Night, Wednesday, August 27: In partnership with CORP (Capital Off Road Pathfinders), we offer practice cyclocross courses in select parks for one designated evening in the late summer and early fall.

- Dane Dances: V-Funk / Montage, Friday, August 29: Dane Dances is a free, family-friendly event held every Friday evening in August on the beautiful Monona Terrace rooftop. The much-anticipated summer music series promotes inclusivity for all ages and is a great way to get down and dance with your friends, family, or coworkers.
- Mobile Vaccination Clinic - Hawthorne Elementary School, Saturday, August 30: All vaccines are free for eligible individuals. Children six months and older who lack insurance, are under 19, and are either Alaskan Native or American Indian, as well as those with BadgerCare or most other types of insurance, can receive vaccinations at no cost.
- Madison-Vilnius Sister Cities will have an annual picnic on Saturday, September 6, 2-6pm, Burrows park shelter. Bring some food to share, it can be "sumuštiniai" (sandwiches), salad, tomatoes from your garden, "tinginys" or any other dessert.
- Save the date for the 22nd Annual Penny Carnival on Hillington Green! Sun Sept 7th, 3:00-5:00pm. Here's how it works: Kids/parents/families create a game or activity booth at the park, along with very small prizes or participation gifts (like candy, snacks, stickers, pennies, old stuffies or fidget toys that you want to get rid of, etc). Each game costs one cent to play. There are lots of easy options that kids of all ages will love. Google “DIY penny carnival games" for some internet inspiration.
- The 5th annual Madison GNG is just around the corner! This year it will be on Sunday, September 7 from noon to 4 pm in Brittingham Park. Sponsored by DMNA, VNA, Greenbush, Bay Creek, Monona Bay, Triangle, and Bayview neighborhoods, local businesses, organizations and individual donors, this free event promises fun and exciting activities for all ages, including bouncy slides, a climbing wall, food trucks, a scavenger hunt, circus activities, educational tables, dance and music, and more.
