Week of July 21, 2025

Helter skelter best summarizes the outcome of last week's City Council meeting related to the Madison Lakeway project and the ordinance in place that served as a guardrail; an ordinance that was manipulated with twisted interpretations, misconstrued meanings and all with the intent of making it more palatable with a revamped amendment and disenfranchising voters without the benefit of a referendum. Yes, this was disappointing. If there was overwhelming confidence in how this project would be funded (private philanthropic dollars), why not allow the voters to decide. Instead, when crowd-funding and go-fund-me does not materialize, will a referendum be proposed? Remodeling projects take place all the time; however, learning how to delay our gratifications until we have the ability to pay for those remodeling projects or allowing our wants to take priority over needs requires addressing the pros and cons, consequences, benefits vs costs, etc. That has not been done.
I will leave it go at that and move on to alert you to many of this week's events and activities that are worthy of your consideration as well as serve as a form of distraction.
