South District Police Station & Property Evidence Facility

  • Artist - Lynn Basa

    Lynn Basa has created work for many public, private, and museum collections across the nation. She has an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MPA in public art policy from the University of Washington. Basa is also an educator, as well as the author of Artist's Guide to Public Art. She is excited to collaborate with our community on this project.

    Designs will not be prepared until late 2026/early 2027.

    Upcoming engagement opportunities will be listed here. A Neighborhood Meeting will be hosted in July/August. The artist will meet with various stakeholder groups in Fall, 2026 to launch the design process.

Project Timeline

  1. Architectural and Engineering Consultant Selected Completed

    The City of Madison selected Enberg Anderson for professional architectural and engineering design consulting services for the South District Police Station & Property Evidence Facility. Their application included Lynn Basa for public art services.

  2. Community Engagement Active

    Lynn Basa will attend a neighborhood meeting about the larger project in Summer, 20206.  Lynn will meet with stakeholders at in-person meetings in Fall, 2026-Spring, 2027. After design concepts are created, the City may organized a community survey to inform design proposal direction.

  3. Initial Concepts Upcoming

    Lynn Basa will present initial concepts to Madison Arts Commission and receive feedback from Commissioners and community members.

  4. Community Feedback Upcoming

    Feedback solicited from residents in the area, as well as staff who may use the facilities, and other stakeholders. This may be an online survey, in-person meetings, or more. 

  5. Updated Design Proposal Upcoming

    After Lynn Basa receives community and commissioner feedback on their initial concepts, she will prepare  and updated design proposal for final comments.

  6. Review and Approvals Upcoming

    Lynn Basa's final design will need to be reviewed by the Madison Arts Commission, as well as possibly the Board of Public Works, Urban Design Commission, Board of Parks Commissioners, Finance Commission and the Madison Common Council. Final approval requirements will depend on the location of the project.
