West Area Plan
The West Area is home to 33,000 residents in a variety of housing types and
styles and hosts over 23,000 jobs. Jobs are concentrated in University Research Park, the Hilldale area, and around West Towne Mall.
The West Area Plan provides direction for City improvements to infrastructure like streets, paths, and parks. It also guides future development through future land use mapping.
Project Update
The West Area Plan was adopted on September 10, 2024. Plan implementation will be lead by the agencies and partners identified in the Plan. Implementation will be subject to Common Council budgeting and citywide project prioritization over the coming years.

Plan Area and Info
The West Area is generally bounded by the West Beltline Highway to the west and south, Midvale Boulevard to the east and the Village of Shorewood Hills, Lake Mendota, and the City of Middleton to the north.
