Plan Review and Approval Process
The South Madison Plan was adopted on January 4, 2022, at the Common Council meeting. A final plan document will be posted soon.
The South Madison Plan was introduced at the November 2 Common Council meeting and is now beginning the official review and approval process. Introduction is the process where the Common Council determines which boards, commissions and committees will review and provide advisory recommendations on the draft plan before it returns to Council for final action. The anticipated approval schedule is below, however dates are subject to change. Meeting participation information can be found on each of the meeting's page, and participants may register for public comment once agendas have been posted.

Transportation Policy and Planning Board: November 15 @ 5:00 pm
Economic Development Committee: November 17 @ 5:00 pm

The acquisition of The Villager Mall and subsequent upgrade to the commercial space and the construction of Access, South Madison Library, and Urban League.

Making Lincoln Elementary safer by relocating the bus boarding off of Cypress Way to the parking lot, and installing pedestrian islands and sidewalks on Cypress Way.

Installation of the first splash park in Madison that provided easy access to a recreational water activity within a residential, walkable neighborhood.

The construction of Burr Oaks Senior Housing provided affordable, close to bus routes, and easy access to shopping and services for low income seniors that resulted from the sale of and financial assistance from the City/CDA.

A safer way to move through the south side occurred with new signalized intersections at Buick Street, Hughes Place, and Wingra Drive (at Fish Hatchery), new sidewalks leading to Goodman swimming pool, and a safer pedestrian access under the viaduct near Quann Garden.

Stabilizing the single family areas in Bram's Addition, Burr Oaks, and Capital View neighborhoods by coordinating a massive downzoning of residential areas to retain single family use.
