Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Install

MGO 34.105 (22)(a): A Work Permit is required for the installation or modification of all Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) retail cylinder exchanges and for LPG containers of 100 gallons, or aggregate, water capacity or more.

LP-Gas (IFC 61) MFD work permit MGO 34.02(2)(h)10:

  1. Retail Cylinder Exchanges - more than 100 gallons, or aggregate
  2. LPG Individual containers - less than 2,000 gallons
  3. LPG Individual containers - aggregate less than 4,000 gallons

Exception: LPG tanks for temporary use at construction sites do not require a permit.

Your application must include:

  • $250 permit fee
  • Copies of the site plan
  • Tank information
  • Technical data
  • Copy of Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) approval, if applicable.

DSPS Plan Review

DSPS does plan review for the following:

  • Liquid Petroleum Gas tank installation - 2000 gallon and larger, or 4000 gallon aggregate, per SPS 340.42
  • Compressed Natural Gas tank installation - any size installations, per SPS 340.61
  • Liquid Natural Gas tank installation - 2000 gallon and larger, per Comm 40.51
  • Gaseous Hydrogen Facilities - any size installations, per SPS 340.71
  • Liquefied Hydrogen Facilities - 2000 gallon and larger, or 4000 gallon aggregate, per SPS 340.81
  • Installation of Anhydrous Ammonia systems per SPS 343.10.
  • When dispensing is involved, regardless of tank size.
